Refugee Speeches

Evans High School and Evans Intensive English Centre (IEC) joined the world in commemorating World Refugee Day 2023 on 22 June. The strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution are celebrated through the personal speeches of twenty participants. Both students in the mainstream classes and newly arrived IEC students articulated their touching experiences in their journeys from all over the world. Students spoke about their shattered dreams caused by war atrocities and aspirations about the opportunities that Australia offers. Even non-refugee international students spoke in empathy for their peers and pledged their support.
