We celebrate achievements at OLA every day in the classroom. Outstanding achievement is celebrated at every assembly in the front of the school. Congratulations to all the students who received an award last week.
Book Week is fast approaching and we are looking forward to celebrating all things books and reading! The theme for Book Week this year is “Read, Grow, Inspire,” and will be celebrated in Week 7.
We are looking forward to a visit from well-known author Felice Arena on Tuesday 22 August and of course our Annual Book Week Parade on Friday 25 August.
On Wednesday 23 August, we invite families to visit classrooms and read a story with their children.
Students will be given the opportunity to engage in reading and reading activities at lunchtime throughout Book Week as well.
We will also be running competitions throughout Book Week and it would be fantastic to see as many children enter as possible. There will be a prize for the winner from each level!!

This week, 44 students from Grade 3-6 participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC).
First run in 1978, the AMC is Australia’s longest running, largest and most well-known maths competition for school students.
The AMC contains unique problems designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and extend your students’ problem-solving skills. Students completed 25 multiple choice questions and 5 questions that required a 1, 2 or 3 digit answer.
We view this competition is an opportunity for students to showcase what they can do. The questions are very tricky and we are so proud of the students for giving it a go and trying their best.
Grading and certificates will be given in Term 4.
Wakakirri is a national story-dance competition. A group of 60 Grade 5 and 6 students have been volunteering their time all year to put together our entry for the 2023 Wakakirri Story Dance Competition.
We have officially finished our performance! Students know all their parts are working intensively to fine tune the various scenes and costuming. These coming weeks will give us time to perfect our performance and showcase our story to different groups of people.
We have three main performances:
Thanks to those who have already purchased tickets for our Wakakirri Performance Night at Frankston Arts Centre on Friday 18 August. For those who haven't already purchased tickets or those who would like to purchase more, these are now available for public sale via this link.
OLA is hosting a Performing Arts Night on Wednesday 9 August at 6:30pm in Brigid Hall. We are inviting all parents and friends to attend; everyone is welcome - the more the merrier! There will be performances from the Choir, Taiko Club and Wakakirri and will run for approximately half an hour. We invite families to give a gold coin donation on arrival to assist with costume and prop costs.
If your child is performing on the night, please arrive at 6:15pm for them to get changed and organised for their performance.
