This week in Maths, we have begun our new topic on 2D shapes! We started off this topic by reading a picture story book called 'The Great Shape Race'. This story had so many examples of 2D and 3D shapes! In the story, there was a painting of 'Embarrassed Harris', an artwork of a face made up of a variety of 2D shapes. After reading the story, we each created our own 'Embarrassed Harris' faces, using colourful 2D shapes.
'My Embarrassed Harris face is a triangle' - Alena
'I made my Embarrassed Harris into a spider with octagon eyes and a square face' - Ezra
'The face of mine is a circle' - Liam
'My Embarrassed Harris has six sides on the face' - Luca
'My Embarrassed Harris face is a pentagon' - Valentino
'My Embarrassed Harris has a triangle dress. The neck is a rectangle' - Abigail
'My face is an octagon. It has triangle ears. His hair is rectangles' - Aiden
'The body is a square' - Audrey
'It has six sides' - Patricia
'Circle face and triangle eyes' - Elissa
Year 1/2
Show and Tell Time
With Spring quickly approaching, the Grade 1/2s decided to make use of the shining sun and the new outdoor learning space. Show and Tell looked a little different as some students got to sit on the 'very, very, very big chair' and tell their peers all about their special items. We look forward to using this fantastic space more in the future!
Year 2/3
This year we have been learning Auslan. We have started to learn the signs for help, please and thank you and much more. Laura
It is a really good experience learning all about Auslan. I have never been that happy before learning about another language. Olivia
It is so much fun learning basic greetings and new words with your hands in Auslan. Shamus
We enjoy Auslan with Janine it is so unique how we learn Auslan with our hands. We learning a lot of new signs each week like how to say the greeting how are you and the the sign for thank you. Kushi and Raffaele
Auslan is fun when we do it each week. Auslan is important so that you can communicate with Austin. Eva
I love learning the alphabet in Auslan. It is really fun learning new words with your hands, Chloe B
I am learning Auslan but I think it is not easy. Sometimes I have trouble remembering some of the words in Auslan. Viraj
Auslan is really easy but when I first started it, it was really hard to remember the right hand signals. But now that I have practiced a lot, it is really easy. I like learning Auslan every week. Tristan
Year 3
This week the students presented their finished car from our Inquiry Challenge.
When we tested the car, it was super frustrated to see it only go for 1 meter instead of the 2 meters that it should have gone. Our plan was to make it at least to go more than 1 meter. I was very surprised and I couldn't believe it! Tristan
It was confusing and frustrating that our car didn't make 2 meters. It was very hard to make the car but we eventually did it. We tried to use a ramp that we had made, to help us get to 2 meters but it didn't help. We thought that the ramp would help the car to go further because when we tested it without the ramp, it went 1 meter. And we thought that if we had a ramp, it would go to 2 meters but it didn'tI enjoyed making the car with Tristan and Nirav. Cody
It was a lot of fun testing out our car. Our car went straight forwards for 2 meters when we tested it! Then it went 1 and a half meters when we showed the rest of the class We were pretty happy of how it went. Shamus and Benjermen
It was fun doing this challenge with my group. All of us were creative in making our car and finding the materials we needed to build our car. We tried to fix the wheels so that the car could go across the table but it ended up as a sliding car because the wheels could not move properly. Raffaele
I worked with Roman, Maxi and Sai to try and make a car. We tried to make it go forwards but the wheels fell off! Austin
It was really upsetting how we worked so hard to make a great car but it only went 1 meter and then stopped on the table. When Denise pushed the car, one of the wheels fell off and we felt a little embarrassed. We tried our best to make our car and to work together.
Chole B, Amy and Samantha
Our car wasn't as good as we expected. The wheels kept on falling off as we were gluing them onto the box. I got super stressed but the others were fine with it because they thought that the design looked cool! Katalina

Rainbows By Emmastacia (Haiku Poem)
Rainbows are pretty
Rainbows have seven colours
They are very bright!
Year 3/4 students have been learning about Small Moment Writing pieces. They have taken one moment in time and using their senses written about that time. Here are some pieces written about their recent Inquiry Car Challenge.
Car Challenge!!! By Kaitlyn and Natalie
Suddenly.... I heard lots of people stressing out, I saw beautiful cars like a lamborghini, ice cream (Yum!) trucks and race cars. People were gluing together bottle caps, cardboard and lolly pop sticks. Squelch! “EVERYONE FIVE MORE MINUTES TO GO!” shouted Denise. “OH NO!” worried the kids. Everyone was stressed because of how quick time was going! People were running as quick as LIGHTNING (vroom!). I could smell the warm hot glue gun and the strong weird smell of PVA glue. At last the timer finished and the kids were relieved.
Car challenge 🚘 By Aleisha
BOOM, BANG, BOOM! Suddenly the Year 3/4's were inventing toy cars in groups of 3s, I was with Jasmine, Chole and Samantha. Once the alarm started everyone was running like their life depended on it because we only had 30 minutes to finish our car and our group had to make a toy car with wheels and it had to travel 2 METRES. We started really good but then the wheels started to break with 10 minutes on the clock. I was rushing so much that the more I was rushing the more it broke so I decided to do it slowly and the wheels actually stayed on, I was so relieved. DING, DING, DING my group finished the car just in time. Although it looked nothing like we planned it to be, we were all happy that we got it finished. I can’t wait to make another project like this!!!
Car Challenge By Azariah and Lauren
‘’Screech!’’ we were cutting the cardboard to fit on our car, the car we were building was called the butterfly jeep🦋. We tried our hardest to make this look like our drawing, even though it didn’t we still did not give up. My favorite part was definitely the ASMR (amazing, satisfying, material, relaxing). I hope one day we can improve and make sure our car is like our plan.
Car Challenge By Nirav
I was totally frustrated! Everyone was ahead of our group. Our group is gonna fail if we don’t make our toy car fast and it has to travel two meters when ours doesn’t even have wheels! But luckily Marie helped us cut the thick cardboard wheels. For the body, I almost gave up because I didn’t know how to attach the wheels and the body together! I was clueless for a while until something popped up into my mind like a bubble! But time was up. But everyone will get more time tomorrow. The next day, I finished the car and made a ramp with it to give it a boost. It didn’t go the distance I expected, but the most important thing is that I had fun and I had a looooot of fun!!!
Car Challenge By Gail
BOOM!!! Suddenly the timer started. I saw people running all around the room like it was cross country! We only had 30 minutes to finish our car, that needed to go at least 2 metres. My group had already started the night before so we didn’t have to worry. So the whole time we were just testing our car. We couldn’t wait to show the class!
📦CAR CHALLENGE 🚗 By Roman
Rip, went the masking tape as we stuck pieces of cardboard on our toy car. We had to make a toy car out of cardboard and different craft materials. I saw everybody doing a great job but ours wasn’t how we expected it to be. It looked like a turtle transformer, and the wheels kept falling off, Uhh it was a disaster. But the most important part is about having fun and obviously we had sooooo much fun, but the only downside was that my hands were green like The Hulk.
AMAZING CAR CHALLENGE 🚗 BY CALLIX AND MAXIE
We started off bad and stayed bad because we accidentally taped it too much! We were soooo frustrated. Then our car started dying, it was breaking apart, and was crumbling into pieces. After everyone started to improve their cars we were left in the dust that's when our car broke. R.I.P (rest in peace) car. :C 😞 :(
Car Challenge By Jasmine & Tiffany
Clank!!!!!! The bottle cap fell on the floor and we looked for it for ten minutes!!!! But the whole time Veer had it!!! We were all relieved when we found it. We were all so overjoyed but when we thought that Veer had the right cap he had the wrong cap then the search began all over again and we finally found the right cap after searching for another five minutes.
The Car Challenge 🚗 By Allie & Katelin
“BOOM! BOOM!” We worked crazily on the finishing touches to our car, especially the wheels. It was the BIG Car Challenge on Tuesday. We quickly fixed on the rubber bands to the skewers to secure the wheels, as we saw the others groups tweaking and testing their own cars. We didn't worry though, we took our time to test it and got everything set up ready to go to our teacher “Marie”. We were ready to hand it in and we finally got to eat!
Year 5/6
Year 5 and 6 Italian
Ciao a tutti,
In our Italian language classes, the grade 5 and 6 students have been delving into the heart of Italian culture by learning about the family. The family holds a special place in the Italian way of life. Students begun by familiarizing themselves with the Italian names of family members such as: La famiglia (The family), il padre (The father), la mamma (The mother), il fratello (The brother), la sorella (The sister), il nonno (The grandfather), la nonna (The grandmother). These terms enable the students to engage in conversations about family dynamics across generations. The students traced their own family tree (Albero Genealogico) and were asked to bring in photos of their own family so that they could create a family photo album and introduce the members of their family using modelled examples such as “Questo e’ mio padre si chiama Luigi. Mio padre e’ intelligente e forte”. (This is my father his name is Luigi. He is Intelligent and strong). It is impossible to separate the Italian language from the importance of family. Our students are discovering how the Italian language itself reflects this deep respect for family ties.
Arrivederci per adesso!
