YEAR 9

Year 9s have been working on indices. The Josephus problem was presented to the students to find a pattern and a rule using binary numbers to help Josephus the historian find a way to be the last soldier standing in a gruesome siege. Students tried various numbers and found what position they should be in to live! A fun lesson that used formulas and conjectures and showed students that Maths isn’t always about getting the right answer- it’s about being curious and looking for patterns.
