Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Families and Community members,

Our fantastic start to the school year has continued over the last fortnight and it has been wonderful seeing students across all year levels so settled and engaged in their learning.

A particular highlight for me was listening to and observing our School Captain and House Captain speeches and seeing the many fine young leaders we have at ACS. Students spoke with such confidence and pride for their school and one thing that really shone through was the absolute care and support they show to each other. As a school community we should be very proud.

I've also been extremely pleased to be stopped in the yard by a number of parents and carers (particularly new families to the school), who have let me know how welcoming they have found ACS and how much they are enjoying our school and community! Thank you to everyone for playing your part in creating such a positive school culture.

School Captains & House Captains

Over the last couple of weeks, our Grade 6 and Year 10-12 students have been learning about the roles and responsibilities of being a school and house captain at Armstrong Creek School. An impressive 59 students decided to self-nominate for one or both of these positions. These students put a tremendous amount of time and effort into writing a speech explaining why they were best for the position. They then presented their speeches to their respective learning communities, staff and principal class team which took a lot of courage and something we are very proud of them for! We are so proud to announce and congratulate the following students on their appointment to these roles:

We want to recognise the effort our entire Grade 6 and Year 10-12 cohorts have demonstrated in being outstanding role models over the course of the first few weeks of this schooling year.

School Council Elections 2022 - Nominations Now Open

Armstrong Creek School Council elections for 2022 will be held this term.  All parents and guardians and staff are encouraged to carefully consider how they can best contribute to and support the continued growth and development of Armstrong Creek School and in doing so to consider the possibility of nominating for election to the School Council. School Council is a legally formed body with the power to set key directions of Armstrong Creek School within centrally provided guidelines and frameworks. In doing this, School Council is able to influence the quality of education the school provides to its students. All parents/guardians of students at Armstrong Creek School are eligible to nominate for parent members. Persons who work at Armstrong Creek School as DET employees are eligible to nominate for DET positions at the election.  Please see the attachments below for :

Please don't hesitate to contact the office if you have any questions.

Year 3-12 House Swimming Sports

On Tuesday 8 March students in Years 3-12 will participate in the annual House Swimming Carnival.  The House Swimming Carnival is held at the Kardinia Aquatic Centre.  This event has been designed as a fun and educative day for all students in these year levels.  The focus of the day is water awareness and safety while being active in and near waterways.

Throughout the day, students will participate in a range of activities both in and out of the pools.  The activities have been designed to be inclusive for all abilities including such elements as swimming across the width of the pool and participating in events on grassed areas beside the water.  Students will be awarded points for their house through their participating in events

This year, we are fortunate that the Year 3-12 House Swimming Carnival is fully subsidised by the Swimming in Schools funding that Armstrong Creek School received in 2022.  This means there is no cost to families for students to attend this event.

Further information including the program for the day and parent/guardian consent for the event, will be provided to families of students in Years 3-12 via the Compass Event notification.

2022 Woorrangalook Victorian Indigenous Surfing Titles

Ruby and Harper participated in the 2022 Woorrangalook Victorian Indigenous Surfing Titles recently.  The titles celebrate surfing and indigenous culture. Ruby (Gr 4) and Harper (Gr 2) won the girls division encouragement award. They won their very own surfboard and some other goodies. This event was held at Urquharts Bluff, Great Ocean Road and was a great celebration of connection to country, willingness to have a go and water safety.

We are all very proud of Ruby and Harper!

Dental Van

Due to the overwhelming response and success of being a part of the pilot program in 2020, the Dental Vans will be visiting Armstrong Creek School again!  The Consent form and a bag with toothbrush, toothpaste and a flyer all about the program will come home with all students this week.  We are still finalising the details of the visit dates and as soon as they are confirmed, all families will be notified.

If you would like your child\children to participate in this free dental service, please complete the Consent Form and return it to school by Friday 25 February, 2022. This Consent Form is for an initial examination and clean only.  Families will be contacted directly by Barwon Health should students require further follow up treatment after their initial examination.

Please contact the office if you have any questions.
