Ms. Christine Barnes - Head of Health, Wellness and Sport

At Clayfield College, we provide the opportunity for and encourage all students to participate in sporting activities regardless of ability. We recognise the significance and importance of the Clayfield College Sports Programs in fostering the holistic growth, development and education of our young people. Sport is seen as a voluntary extension of the College's Health and Physical Education program, rather than an end to itself. The learning of various game skills with an emphasis on personal growth, persistence, effort and commitment and the social/emotional development involved in team cooperation, success and cohesion are considered valued and worthwhile educational experiences. Students across the College will be encouraged to participate in the Co-curricular Programs offered as these opportunities provide rich and diverse experiences that contribute to not only personal growth and development but also increasing the sense and experience of community that is a central value at Clayfield College.

Secondary Sport

The Sports Department and College Sports Captains are very much looking forward to the return to the College next week and to kick off the 2022 QGSSSA (QG) sporting year. It was wonderful that so many students signed up to take part in the first Summer Sports Camp in mid-January, and we were very disappointed at having to cancel this wonderful opportunity. We are very hopeful and looking forward to being able to run our Winter Sports Camp in June.

Details about all things sport will be provided each week in The Collective and further details, updates and any changes will be put into the College app.  As such, it is essential that you download the Clayfield College app on your mobile phone so that any information or alerts regarding weather, cancellations, transport arrival times and any other important information can reach your family as soon as possible. Clayfield College Volleyball Academy

The College is currently seeking expressions of interest for a Head Volleyball coach to take over from Amanda Fielding who after many years has had to relinquish her role due to a new employment opportunity. Further information about the academy will be released once a new coach is secured. The program will run once a week during term time as per 2021. Any families wishing to gather more information regarding this program, please contact Ms. Christine Barnes.

Clayfield College Tennis Excellence Program

Thanks to the wonderful refurbishment of our tennis courts last year, we have been able to secure Lifetime Tennis as our new tennis provider, and with that establish a high-performance tennis program. Lifetime Tennis will conduct all tennis within the College from HPE class lessons to Andrews Cup, Britton Shield, QGSSSA, to Hot Shots and individual tennis coaching. For further information on our tennis programs please contact Matt Limpus (Head Coach) directly on 0419 789 953 or use the contact details located on the flyer below.

The regional sports calendar as posted on the Metro-North website will remain in place this year and as such, there are a number of trials that commence as of next week.  See the below document to view a full list of sports trials running in Term 1.

All sports with trials happening in February are posted on the College app and have the due date for all nominations. Please ensure these are collected from the sports department at least a week prior to the district or if not district trial, the regional trial to ensure you have College approval to attend and all relevant paperwork to trial.

External Sporting Opportunities

Secondary students who would like to take part in a learn to sail program that is run in conjunction with Brisbane Boys College can find further information and contact details below.

Student Achievements

Each week we love acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of our many students who compete at high levels in the sport beyond the College sporting program. For this to occur, we need families to email through these wonderful achievements sending through event details, placings, times, rankings, etc, and photos of students performing or receiving awards.

Once again could we please ask all families to continue to do so by sending through all information to Ms. Rebecca Clydesdale at rclydesdale@clayfield.qld.edu.au to collate and ensure these are published each week.
