Mrs. Karen Gordon - Director of Co-curricular Music / Coordinator of Strings

Welcome to Clayfield College Music, 2022. Our Music Team here at Clayfield is prepared and looking forward to starting rehearsals in Week 3 when school resumes in person. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our Music Reading Days which were scheduled to take place this weekend on 5 and 6 February.

Please see below our Performance Calendar for the year.

This year we have a new choir, ‘Avanti’. Any student from Years 7 to 12 is welcome to join this choir which will be directed by Miss. Spencer. They will rehearse on a Wednesday morning at 7:15 am in the chapel. Students in Ciao Bella and Canzona are also encouraged to join.  A sign-up sheet will be placed outside the Music Department staffroom on Monday 7 February.

Please find below the Rehearsal Schedule for Term 1. All rehearsals will commence on Monday 7 February.

2022 Private Music Tuition

We offer private specialist tuition for the following instrument groups: Piano (from Year 2), Strings (from Year 3), Band (from Year 5), and Vocal (from Year 6).

Any student wishing to apply for Private Music Tuition can submit the following online Application form, to be completed by a Parent or Caregiver. Tuition fees, terms, and conditions are communicated in the form, accessibly via the button below.

Many of our current Instrumental students have commenced online lessons this week. Students are reminded to inform their class teachers that they are departing their class to attend a music lesson.

Instrumental tutors will be back on campus in Week 3 and lessons will commence in person. We have COVID-19 measures in place to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

String Lessons

String students will be trialling a new learning space this term!

We have moved all Violin and Viola lessons to the second floor of the Annexe building, where the rooms are bigger and brighter!

Students can store their instruments on this level, as the storage room in the old Chalet will now be closed. Cello and Bass lessons will occur in MU3 and Cello’s can be stored in this room.

Year 7 and 8 Music Bursaries

Thanks to the ‘Friends of Music’, we are offering a handful of Bursaries to Year 7 or 8 students in 2022. Tuition is offered to beginners on musical instruments that are needed to supplement the College Ensemble Program.

In 2022 we are offering tuition for French Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Double Bass and Cello. Bursaries are offered at the discretion of the Coordinator of Strings/Coordinator of Bands, and terms and conditions will apply.

Student and Staff Achievements

Congratulations to Lillian Child (Year 6) who was awarded an A for her Second Grade AMEB Cello exam at the end of last year.

Congratulations to Ysolt Clark, our Upper Brass Tutor, who has revised and re-written the French Horn Syllabus for the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB).

We look forward to seeing everyone in person very soon.
