From the Principal

Dr. Andrew Cousins

Welcome to the first edition of The Collective for the 2022 school year.  A particular warm welcome to all those new families who are joining our community this year.

We have come to the end of the first week of remote learning. I congratulate and thank all the students and their families, and all the staff for a wonderful week. The teachers have told me that the students were engaged with their remote learning and that they have made a great start to their 2022 academic year.

Over the Christmas break, the College has been a hive of activity. Despite the wet start to the holiday period, the maintenance team and numerous external contractors have been incredibly busy with the refurbishment of the Science laboratories, the update of the exterior of multiple buildings with new Mondo cladding, the external and internal painting of the PE Centre and the continued refresh of several outdoor spaces around the College.

These capital improvements have been facilitated through the support of the Clayfield College Foundation. These projects form part of the ongoing capital refresh, which is made possible by your contribution through the building levy and Foundation Building Fund. I am incredibly grateful for the financial support that each member of our community provides to facilitate the ongoing rejuvenating of our campus. This ongoing refresh ensures that we can create an environment that facilitates productive teaching and learning. I thank each of you for your valued support.

Year 12 2021 Results

The 2021 cohorts’ results were released at the end of last year, and the College is incredibly proud of their achievements. These results have been achieved owing to the efforts of our hard-working students, inspirational teachers, and supportive parents and family members.

8% of students achieved an ATAR greater than 99

As an academically inclusive school, we value diversity and ensure that every student has the opportunity to follow and unlock their passion. The student leaders’ vision of InterLOCed: Community, Culture and Change enriched the lives of all our students during 2021.

In 2021, the information for Clayfield College released by QTAC about ATAR achievement indicates the following:

21% of ATAR candidates obtained an ATAR greater than or equal to 95
43% of ATAR candidates obtained an ATAR greater than or equal to 90
66% of ATAR candidates obtained an ATAR greater than or equal to 80

I also congratulate seven of our students who received an Academic Commendation from the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) for receiving an A grade in 6 General Subjects and twenty-three students who completed VET Certificate qualifications and Diploma courses. Five students completed an AQF Certificate III or IV, and eighteen students completed an AQF Diploma.

University offers were released last month; to date, we have been advised that 92% of the cohort had received an offer.

For our 2021 cohort, we are confident that they will achieve success in the next chapter of their journey. More importantly, as graduates of Clayfield College, they will lead lives of character and meaning. It has been a blessing to work with this remarkable group of young people last year, and we wish this continued success in the years to come. The College is proud of the diverse range of opportunities that is offered to ensure that every student pathway is valued and supported. We do not doubt that the 2021 cohort will lead lives of character and fulfillment, and we look forward to celebrating their successes for many years to come.

Once again, welcome to the 2022 school year; I look forward to welcoming all of our students back to campus on Monday.

Light it up and let your light shine!
