Year 7

Students have participated in a skills based unit learning about melody and harmony through performance, composition and listening activities. They have enjoyed learning ukulele chords and keyboard melodies both individually and in small groups.

 

 

Year 8

This term, Year 8 have completed a skills based unit on The Blues. Students have developed confidence in performing the 12 Bar Blues chord progression on keyboard as well as creating improvised melodies based on the Blues scale. Students are to be congratulated on their melodies which featured call and response and improvisation.

 

Year 9

The Year 9 topic in Term 3 has been Irish Music. Students have enjoyed researching the characteristics of traditional Irish Jigs as well as performing contemporary Irish Music. Students have engaged in whole class and small group performances. They have created an arrangement of an Irish Jig and performed these for the class. The compound time signatures, structure and modes used in the melodies were a focus.

 

 

 

 

Year 10

Year 10 have been engaged in completing a paired aural assessment during the term in which all Concepts of Music were analysed in a song and presented to the class. The students demonstrated improved growth in their understanding of the concepts and enjoyed choosing repertoire to analyse. The class also have been performing songs in small ensembles focusing on creating their own arrangements of popular songs.

 

Year 11

Students have been consolidating their understanding of the Concepts of Music through Aural, Musicology and Performance lessons leading toward the final weeks of the Preliminary Course. Good luck to all students who are preparing for both their practical and aural examinations.

 

Year 12

On Wednesday 4 September, the Year 12 Music class held a showcase of their HSC Music performances for families, friends, staff and students. The performances were outstanding and covered a wide range of genres including Jazz, Rock, Popular, Classical, Romantic, Music of the 20th and 21st centuries and Musical Theatre.

 

Thank you to all who supported the students on the night, in particular, the Year 11 Hospitality class led by Miss Hazelwood. We wish Year 12 Music students all the best for their upcoming HSC Practical examination which will be held next Tuesday.
