Music @ WPS

We believe learning music improves a child’s approach to learning...It improves their literacy, numeracy, communication, organisation and problem-solving. It also enhances their personal confidence, gross and fine motor skills, and helps develop cooperation, collaboration and a sense of belonging and wellbeing.

Music with Mark Holder-Keeping from the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music starts this week!

This year our school music program will encompass the ChiMe Program, School of Guitar Program and our School Band.

ChiME Program

All Kindergarten and Year 1 students will participate in 32x 30min ChiMe lessons.

The ChiME program is an exploration of music through singing, playing, moving, listening and creating using different musical instruments each week!

School of Guitar Program

All students in Year 2-6 will kick-off with our new "School of Guitar" program on Thursday. The school has purchased 30 brand new guitars. All students will participate in 32x 30min weekly practical guitar lessons led by Mark & their teacher.

School Band

The School Band will also continue this year with a focus on guitar.

From the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music

Hi Everyone,

Here is a bit of information about WollCon's new Junior Strings Program! For students who have never played an instrument before, but are interested in learning violin, viola, cello, or double bass through to beginner students who have not yet completed a Grade 1 AMEB exam.

Students can start enrolling now through the WollCon website or by calling the office on 02 4228 1122. Don't miss out as there is a cap on the number of students we can accept.

Of note is our Meyer Double Bass Ensemble for completely new to beginner bassist. Each student accepted to the Meyer Ensemble will receive a generous scholarship to participate in the year-long program and work with our bass specialist in the ensembles, individual lessons, masterclasses, and holiday programs.

Other instruments will receive a generous bursary to participate in the program.

Students who already play may be interested in joining Llewelyn String Orchestra. Each member of this ensemble will receive a bursary to cover all masterclasses, workshops, and holiday programs.

Youth Orchestras — Wollongong Conservatorium of Music

There are groups for beginners right up to flagship ensembles like the BlueScope Youth Orchestra. Generally, our Youth Orchestras are for young musicians interested in classical music, although other styles of music are always in the mix.
