Year 10 Music

Excursion to the Australian Music Vault

On Wednesday 19th October, Year 10 Music students travelled to The Music Vault in Melbourne to participate in a Hip-hop Lyric writing workshop. Starting with a tour of the facility, our students were given a history of some of Australia’s most well-known artists such as Kylie Minogue, ACDC, Gurrumul and Tina Arena. Following the tour, the lyric-writing workshop began, instructed by the successful Australian performer and MC mantra. Using four student-chosen words – cyanide, entrepreneur, orange, and photosynthesis – mantra freestyled an impressive performance for our students, somehow finding a way to rhyme ‘orange’ with ‘college.’ Students were then presented with a hip-hop backing track and given approximately 30 minutes to compose lyrics.

All individuals including staff gave the lyric writing a go, with a few students getting up to perform their compositions at the conclusion of the workshop. All who attended are to be congratulated on their efforts across the day, and for representing Tarneit Senior College with respect of our school values of Integrity, Innovation and Focus. An additional thanks the Arts Centre and The Music Vault, and Mary, Hanifa and Zuhair for accompanying our students on the excursion.
