'Phew! We're there!'

Here we are - Week 10!

Despite the fact we're all ready for a well-deserved rest, Week 10 still featured lots of fun-filled learning and experiences!

Reading

Lots of sharing and chatting was had this week, as we looked at, listened to and read a selection of texts including online texts from 'Kids News', 'Epic' and more. Understanding what we've read is a very important part of the journey to becoming a competent reader.

Writing

We've worked hard to proof read, edit and publish our recounts this week. Some finishing off also featured, ensuring our hard work was popped in to our 'Writer's Gift'. Students also had another opportunity to experience an online typing course to help efficiently use their keyboards for writing. Many students loved this challenge and we will keep working on this over time.

Spelling

We consolidated our spelling focus on plurals - where with words ending with 'y,' an 's' is added. Such as, 'tray' becomes 'trays. Students also practised the trickier spelling pattern where some word ending with y, when made into a plural, the 'y' is dropped and replaced with 'ies.' Such as party, becomes parties. This spelling choice depends on whether the word ends in a digraph or if it is a single letter making the last sound of the word.

Maths

Week 10 saw us further grow our mapping and directions skills. Activities included students hiding an object for a friend in the playground, drawing a map/writing directions and then getting their partner to find it by following the directions/map. They then swapped over! We also had some fun exploring Google Maps and finding where we live and other important places.

Other stuff....

  • We took advantage of the sun and headed out for a few fun games and P.E skills too!
  • A couple of 'guest student teachers' helped us see the week out. We had Mr. Sankhon the librarian and Professor Hill give us a lengthy challenge too!
  • Concert time is drawing close! If you could please send your child to school with their black clothes (long sleeved top and long bottoms) BY THURSDAY, 6th of OCTOBER (first week back) that would be great. We are having a dress rehearsal that day and then we can keep them at school for 'safe keeping' until the big day/evening/night. Popping them in a labelled bag with their name would be extra helpful - thanks!

Keep safe over the break,
