Unit of Work

'Australia - Past and Present'

As our Grade 6 students busily plan their Graduation ceremony, the Grade 5 students will be exploring Australian history through the Unit of Work 'Australia - Past and Present'.

This unit investigates Australia's history, through significant people and events. Students will reflect on how our history impacts us today.

The Key Understandings of this Unit are:

  • Sequence significant events and lifetimes of people in chronological order and present this information
  • Investigate the role that a significant individual, group or event played in shaping and changing Australia
  • Identify and describe change and explain the cause and effect of this
  • Use this historical knowledge to explain and analyse Australian society today
  • Identify possible solutions to an issue as part of a plan for action
