Performing Arts Highlights
Year Prep Communities
In Luna and Achilles, the students have begun the term with responding to music from around the world. They shared how the music made them feel and performed creative movement to match the beat. Students collaborated with others to explore improvisation and perform a 4-beat pattern. Their partner or group members echoed the rhythm back using their listening skills. Students experimented with playing loudly and softly, as well as fast and slow. They reflected on whether they preferred to improvise or practise a song when performing. Students played instruments and created voice effects to match a sound story to show pitch and dynamics.
Year 1/2 Communities
In Xenica, Ulysses and Argus, the students have been learning about the musical elements of pitch and melody. Students began the term with revising high and low pitch techniques with the glockenspiels and xylophones. They explored how to play steps, skips and slides using the game of Snakes and Ladders. Students experimented with voice to show high and low vocal effects to a song called, 'Coo-ee'. Students worked together to identify and perform ascending and descending melodic patterns using the C Scale. Students played the tuned instruments to perform a Rock N Roll version of ‘Ipsy Wipsy Spider’, showing the ability to go up and down the C Scale in steps using a visual of the water spout.
