AHPS C A R N E V A L E ~ ITALIAN CARNIVAL 2023

We are very excited about hosting another Italian Carnival next year on Tuesday, February the 28th, 2023. This time, we are looking forward to making it BIGGER and BETTER! This means, we hope to put on a real carnival, with costumes, food stalls and a lot more activities. We will wear costumes all day at school and run our usual classes, have a costume parade, enjoy some classroom Carnevale activities, and have a 'Carnveale Learning Street Party' officially run from home time to 4:30 after school.

.
.

*Therefore, we are reaching out to families in our community who run a food business professionally. If you have an official food business and have a food handling certicate, and would like to set up a food truck/ stall for our Italian Carnival, we would love to hear from you!

Also, any musicians are welcome to come and perform some music. We welcome music of all cultures, as Carnevale is a celebration of life!

Please contact

michelle.napolitano@education.vic.gov.au or write to us via Compass if you are interested in joining our celebrations.

We are also extending invitations to all of our school community - including past students of AHPS. Please come and join in the fun and catch up with some of your old classmates and teachers!

***Tickets will be on sale at the start of next year!***

We are very excited about our current unit of work - ANDIAMO AL MERCATO!

Students in years 3-6 are building their vocabulary all about food and food markets in Italian. They have created their own market stall ideas which include a creative name that they have translated into Italian, their own design of a shop logo and sign, a food item list of Italian vocabulary, and scripts to assist in their roleplay conversations.

Students in years 1 and 2 have been building their vocabulary of different foods in Italian and practising basic conversation skills, as well as beginning some understanding of the many different ways to say 'the' in Italian and how to match the definite article to masculine, feminine and plural nouns.

Students in grade prep have been learning to write basic conversational words and practising numbers, certain foods, and revising Italian alphabet single letter sounds (such as, vowel sounds are always short,) and blends (such as, ch= 'k' in Italian, and ce/ci = 'ch').

All students are currently undergoing assessment of their Italian vocabulary and grammar skills, and there has been a lot of success

and many celebrations of learning.

Well done!
