Inspiring

I am blessed to work with amazing colleagues. Over the last few weeks, I have been helping Ms Santiago run the HSC exams. It is a nervous experience for the young men who are undertaking these exams. It is also a nervous experience for us as educators, waiting to see the exam, wondering what the questions will be.

During the week, as one exam had finished up, I was approached by a teacher who asked me if I had seen the exam. When I told her some of the questions, there was a genuine feeling of joy. She relayed to me the preparation she had done to get her students ready for the exam. This involved her going back over past HSC examinations and analysing the questions so she could give her students practice questions. Her dedication to her students is second to none and our students are blessed that we have teachers in this school who go above and beyond for the betterment of their students. While as teachers we never try to predict the HSC questions, we do try and prepare the students as best we can. I walked away from this conversation after seeing the joy in her face and her genuine excitement, feeling lucky I get to work with amazing colleagues.

Another example of this is as we move towards 2023, we are interviewing for vacant staff positions, and once again, I was inspired by a candidate who will start with us next year. When we asked the question “If you could leave us with one succinct sentence that lets us know why you should be the preferred candidate?”, her response was “If you invest in me, you will invest in the future of your boys”. Once again, I was inspired and excited for the future. I sincerely thank all the staff from Year 5 to Year 12, as well as all our support staff. It takes a village to raise a child and with the partnership we have with parents and carers, we are seeing young men graduate who have been given every opportunity to succeed. That’s what truly inspires me.
