3/4 B

Week 4 Term 4

Literacy

We have now finished up our writing focus of Dynamic Dialogue. One activity that the children really enjoyed was the Paper Fight. The students were presented with a variety of scenarios and then with a partner needed to have a written paper fight. Using dialogue they needed to pass their piece of paper back and forth, all the while having an argument. No talking was allowed! Some of the scenarios included:

  • ‘Clean up your bedroom, it’s a pigsty!’
  • ‘It’s not my turn to empty the dishwasher.’
  • ‘Don’t borrow my stuff without asking!’
  • ‘You are so embarrassing, Dad.’
  • ‘Your report card is terrible. What’s going on?’
  • ‘Finish your dinner or you’re not going anywhere!’

When we include dialogue in our writing it should: reveal something about the character, make the writing more powerful and move the storyline forward.

Inquiry

For our stop motion animations this term we are going to use the parables of the New Testament to integrate our Education in Faith with our Inquiry. The children will immerse themselves in four different parables and then choose one to use for their stop motion animation.

What are parables? Parables are simple stories used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels.

We will look into the Good Samaritan, The Prodigal Son, The Lost Sheep and The Parable of the Talents. The children will then plan for and create a stop motion animation that tells a story illustrating a moral or spiritual lesson as told in the parable.

Maths

To begin term 4 we have been revising all of the four operations (x + / -). We have also introduced some new strategies to help us solve problems using these operations. This past week in multiplication we have introduced the split strategy and area model. These two strategies help us to solve multiplication using larger numbers. Often we hear 'I can't solve that because I only know how to solve up to 12x12'. But when we use these two strategies we can use what we know to help us solve larger problems.

Lunch orders

There will be no lunch orders for the next fortnight. So that means, no lunch orders for week 5 (2/9) and week 6 (9/9). Lunch orders will resume in week 7 on Wednesday 16th November.

Walk for Epilepsy

It was great to see so many students wearing purple and bring a gold coin to support our Epilepsy awareness day. We also really enjoyed our walk around Beauty Park on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon.

Operoo

Are you signed up to Operoo? Moving forward, Operoo will be the only way we send out and receive permission notices for upcoming excursions. You will need to have signed on and accessed your Operoo account for that to happen. There will be no more paper excursion notices!! Please check in at the office if you have any questions about Operoo.

Have a great long weekend! I hope you back a winner!

Mr Brendan.
