Prep

Literacy

The Prep students have been listening to traditional fairy tale stories as part of our Inquiry unit. We are identifying the characters in the story and the setting and discussing the problem in each fairy tale. In response to The Gingerbread Man, they independently wrote a sentence about a character from the story. When writing sentences, the students use capital letters and appropriate punctuation and then read back their sentences for meaning. During literacy rotations, the students participate in guided reading sessions with me; they write sentences that include tricky words, segment words and practise their letter formation.

Maths

The Preps have been superstar Mathematicians! Last week the Preps had opportunities to participate in activities to investigate the concept of sharing. They listened to various Maths stories such as Equal Shmequal and The Doorbell Rang. In response to the stories, the students shared collections of objects such as cookies, ice cream scoops and eggs equally between groups.

This week the students have been organising collections of concrete materials such as icy pole sticks,  buttons, and counters and counting blocks into groups of ten. This is the introduction to place value and understanding the value of the digits between 10 and 20. We have also been creating 'teen' place value towers.

Education in Faith

After the whole school prayer on Tuesday morning, the students reflected on what they would like to thank God for. During our morning prayer circle, the students said a prayer of thanks. It was beautiful to hear their heartfelt prayers of thanks.

This week we read the story 'Jesus feeds the 5000' and how the young boy trusted Jesus and gave him his food. We also discussed that Jesus thanked God for the loaves of bread and the fish before he shared the food.

The popular Prayers in Pyjamas evening is taking place on 9 November from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Please join us for a wonderful evening.
