Year 10 Geography Students Undertaking Fieldwork

19 Budding Geographers headed to Inverloch on Thursday to undertake Data gathering, Mapping and SCUMS Analysis as part of the Year 10 Geography Unit – Environmental Change and Management.

An analysis of Inverloch geographical, social, environmental and demographic features, as well as some yummy fish and chips, led us to the Surf Beach and Eagles Nest to look at erosion and erosion management. The theory in class of our key concepts including longshore drift, scale, stacks, arches, abrasion, waffling, interconnection all came to life as we discussed the complexities of environmental management – particularly in relation to Tourism.  A walk around the rocks, some cave exploration and it was time to head back up the steps but not before Fin found a fossil on the rocks which we promptly named ‘ Fins fossil’. 19 tired, wind swept students arrived back at school with sand in their shoes and smiles on their faces.
