SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Senior School News

Our team of teachers, coordinators & support staff have been really pleased with the way all Senior School students have taken to their new ‘2020’ study environments in the STEAM building. We are seeing a consistently productive group of Year 11’s and 12’s utilising the Study Hall / Further Learning time, and keeping our kitchen, study and relaxation spaces, clean and presentable. I want to congratulate all Years, 10’s, 11’s and 12’s for the respectful culture they are helping to develop, and without mobile phones, our communication skills continue to expand! It is a real joy to work with you all in this space.

Year 12 Information Night

Year 12 Information Night – Next Wednesday 26th at 6.30pm. Each year we run an information session for the parents and students of our current Year 12 cohort in the STEAM building. It is a night to discuss Surviving and Thriving in VCE – and to start to focus on study skills, pathways, University and TAFE applications, the ATAR and the process of exams. Our Careers Practitioner, Year Level Coordinators, Principals and I will all be there; to answer your questions and perhaps allay some concerns and stresses you may have as we begin this journey together. Supper will be served, and we look forward to meeting as many parents as possible.

New Team Member

Welcome to Mr Ray Boulter! Our new Year 10 Coordinator is a wonderful asset to the team and an inspiring leader to the Year 10’s. He is often able to spend time with the students during Year 10 ACE and students are responding well to his leadership. We know Mr Boulter is a good swimmer (for sure), and I am pretty sure he likes to snowboard….but which footy team does he barrack for…???

Senior ACE

Senior ACE periods. These continue to be a source of information each week but we also aim to make this time a valuable chance to reflect on your: study habits, short term goals, stress and time management, life skills (practical skills for life beyond school),  communication skills and relaxation techniques. These are important sessions for ALL Senior Students and I know all Coordinators and Mentors are putting a huge amount of work into making these sessions meaningful & relevant. “Don’t miss out!”

Special Exam Arrangements

For those students studying a Unit 3 / 4 subject who will sit external examinations this year, you may be eligible for VCAA Special Examination Arrangements. If you can demonstrate that your capacity to access a VCE external assessment is impaired, you need to contact Ms Neill or Ms Sorrell in the Senior School office ASAP so we can provide you with the correct administrative paperwork.

Some of the reasons for this application may include: an ongoing mental health condition, health impairment, physical disability, specific learning disorder, language disorder, motor coordination disorder, hearing impairment or vision impairment.

As per VCAA requirements, applications for Special Examination Arrangements for each student must be made through appropriate school staff, be endorsed by the principal and be supported by recent professional and/or other specialist reports and school-based evidence.

New Students

We welcome a number of new students to the KSC Senior School this year, and already they appear to be settling into our pace and our place really well! All students are welcome to come to the Senior Office any time and say hello, ask questions or tell us how your day is going. Have a great year.
