From the Principal

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Welcome to week 3. Congratulations to our Cross Country Team who competed at the Catholic Championships today. The team, consisting of students in years 3-6, competed against hundreds of other Catholic school students from across the state. A special mention to Eric Gray in year 6 who finished second in his event. Thank you to Mrs Marino for co-ordinating the team.

Thank you to our "senior" Reception classes for sharing some of their learning at today's Assembly. It was wonderful to see so many parents and other family members in attendance. Our next Assembly is in week 6 led by our year 4's.

Book Week Parade

Our 2022 Book Parade is on Friday, August 26  at 9.15am. The students, in costume, will walk around the block in their class groups . Community members are encouraged to line the footpath and give a cheer and wave as the procession passes by. The classrooms will then be open till 10am for guests to come in and view student's pieces of work. Students can stay in their costume for the day or take it off if they prefer.

Live Learn Lead Parent Survey Reminder

You are invited to participate in a short (3 to 5 minute) survey about our school’s performance. Similar surveys will be administered to staff and students to enable us to capture a community snapshot. All responses are confidential and will be used for school improvement purposes.

The school values your feedback and will try to respond to the information that they provide. For each statement, you are asked to rate how well you think the school is performing by selecting one of six responses. The responses are numbered 1 to 6. Please respond with respect to your perceptions related to the oldest child enrolled at the school. There are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers. Your opinion is what is wanted.

To get started go to www.NSIPartnerships.com.au and enter the access code provided CODE: SGLLLP

New School Counsellor

My name is Ruby Lai and I am the new Children’s Counsellor at the school. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences (Counselling Studies). I have years of experience in working with children and schools on a variety of issues including parental separation, trauma, child abuse and neglect, grief and loss, anxiety, friendship issues, bullying and self-harm. I will be in the school on Wednesdays.

The school counselling service is provided by Centacare for individual counselling and as a referral service for students from Reception to Year 6. Students can refer themselves to the service or they can be referred by their teacher, parents, or principal.

Centacare aims to work inclusively with students, teachers, parents and the wider school community with the aim of enhancing children’s wellbeing and ensuring supports are in place for students to develop a network of safe people around them. Whilst we aim to be inclusive, we also respect that counselling is a confidential process for students and we will endeavour to gain their permission to speak with the important adults in their life.

If you would like to refer a student please don’t hesitate to contact me through the school.

Another reminder that due to maintenance of St Albans Reserve, Sports Day will be held in Term 4, on a date to determined. A couple of events that will be occurring along with the Bookweek Parade are the Father's Day Breakfast on Friday 2 September, and Grandparent's Day Thursday 15 September.
