Principals Report

Rohan Cooper

As we reach the half-way point of Term 3, it is a great opportunity to reflect on the many things that are happening in our school right now, as well as foreshadowing some exciting events ahead.

Student Enrolment

Do you have a child starting in Prep next year, or know someone who does? Maybe you know a family who has recently moved, or is looking to move, into the area? It is imperative that all prospective 2023 students are enrolled as soon as possible. If you are an existing family, please complete the enrolment form below, along with Immunisation records and Birth certificate.  All completed information is to be emailed to port.melbourne.ps@education.vic.gov.au or dropped into our office.  If you would like to book a tour, they are run each Friday at 9:30am.  Please book a spot here. We intend to have a complete list of enrolments by Wednesday 31st August.

VSBA Building Project

As you will have seen, the site sheds from the current building project have been removed, with some extra space opened-up for our students. Today we proudly toured the facility with our local State MP, Mr. Martin Foley. Mr. Foley has overseen the grant for this project and was delighted to see the new facilities, ensuring our students, staff and community have an outstanding environment to learn in.

School Review

The DET school review process, undertaken by all Victorian Government Schools every four years, has now concluded. We have shared indicative findings with our staff; all of which were a positive reflection of the outstanding work taking place in every classroom, every day. We expect the formal feedback to be received by the end of term and we look forward to sharing this with our broader school community.

Community Events

Tonight I look forward to joining many of you at the first PMPS Trivia Night in my time at the school; I’ve heard it’s always an enjoyable one! To the brilliant team who put this event together, led by Victoria Mackey and supported by Annalie Darlington, Zoe Stooke, Michelle Ditton, Susan McLeish, Kate Esam and Kate Ross, thank you for the countless hours you have spent behind the scenes, ensuring this night is a memorable one for us all!

More than a few of our families will have had two good nights out in a row, with ‘The Last Port’ representing our school in the ‘Parents Battle of the Bands’ competition held at The Prince Band Room last night. Fearlessly led by Midge Bateup, our team of talented parents did us proud on the night (I did see a late-night photo of the team raising a place-getter trophy!) and raised significant funds to go towards our Music program. Thank you to Midge and ‘The Last Port’ for their wonderful contributions!

We have some important forthcoming events too, with our ‘Dad’s Footy’ fundraiser returning on 27th August and a working bee being planned for a weekend in September.

Class Representatives Morning Tea

Next Wednesday 17th August, I’m meeting with our Class Representatives after drop-off. It will be a great opportunity to share some feedback from our review, discuss recent and upcoming community events and plan for the continued success of this program moving forward.

Thank you for your ongoing support and keep doing your best.

Rohan.
