Learning and Teaching

Indigenous Culture

In further developing their understanding of Indigenous culture, our Year 6 students are creating their own Ngaka Ngaka boards. 'Ngaka Ngaka' means 'Look Look' in one of the language groups within the Gunditjmara nation. The game is an Aboriginal Culture version of the well known 'noughts and crosses' game for children'. Indigenous symbols are placed around the board which tell a story. Students have written their own story, including techniques such as Personification, Metaphors and Similes, and then created the Ngaka Ngaka board to match their story.

Student Learning Goals

We remind parents to please continue to review your child's goals and how he / she is working on developing these. Also, keep focusing on Growth Mindset. "I can't do it... YET!"

Production Video Order Form

Thanks to all those who have placed an order for a copy of last year's production. Whilst the USB stick did arrive and were distributed, it appears that some of the USB sticks were mixed up with another order. If your USB stick does not contain a copy of the production, please return it to school so that the correct USB stick can be sent home. If you'd still like to order a copy, please complete the form below or contact the office.

VIRTUAL REALITY AT ST JUSTIN'S

Dear Parents and Families,

This year, the Year 5/6 students are embarking on a Virtual Reality (VR) journey using a program called CoSpaces. CoSpaces provides students with the ability to demonstrate their knowledge in new ways by building virtual interactive worlds, simple or complex, that are approachable for primary aged students.

In order for students to experience the world they have created in virtual format, we are seeking donations of old iPhones that you are no longer using at home.

The iPhone must work but does not need to be a new model. We would really appreciate any donations in order to allow our students new and exciting opportunities in 21st century digital learning.

We will be collecting the devices over the next 2 weeks so please send them in via your child's classroom bucket, preferably in a bag/envelope with attention to Mrs. Wickens (Digital Technologies Leader).

Year 3/4 Camp Information Evening

A great deal of preparation has already gone into the upcoming Middle School Camp which will take place at Camp Toolangi from Thursday 8th September to Friday 9th September.

This overnight stay will be a great opportunity for them to gain some independence by being away from home for the night.

To help prepare for the experience, there be a Year 3/4 Camp Information evening on Thursday 18th August, 2022. The meeting will be held online via a Google Meet from 7.00 - 7.45pm.  We will place the link on SeeSaw on the afternoon of the meeting.  We hope this meeting will help answer any questions you might have.

Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting.

Regards,

Middle School Team
