HANDS ON LEARNING

Hands on Learning students have been very busy building three different sized picnic tables. Students were required to measure and mark out the individual pieces for each picnic table. Tabletops and seats were constructed and sequentially assembled to complete the construction process. The picnic tables were then sanded and had two coats of clear varnish applied.

During this project all students have displayed good collaboration and worked respectfully in groups to finish each picnic table to a high standard. Congratulations to all students involved in this community project

The tables have been distributed amongst all Northern Bay College campuses.

PERFORMING ARTS

This term our Performing Arts Teachers, Ms Maria Korolis and Ms Sarah Cole, began working at Peacock and Hendy Campus. They were sad to say goodbye to Wexford and Tallis, however excited to be sharing their skills at their new campuses.

They have had a great start to the term including the opportunity to be mentored during their session by teaching artist Miss Erin who is from the songroom. Miss Erin will be working with a class of year 7/8 and 1/2 students, where then Ms Korolis and Cole will share these skills with all classes in their learning community. Students have had a great few weeks learning all about the ukulele and learning musical games and interactive activities too explore the elements of music.

EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY

What a great start we have had to the Term 3 Extended School Day. It was wonderful to see so many students back with us, as well as so many new faces. We also welcome some new programs for term 3 - Team Games, Guitar, Fashion & Art, Science Experiments, Bollywood Dancing, Origami and Spanish, as well as some great favourites.

With nearly 350 students participating over the three days, it is wonderful to see so many students taking part in this amazing, free opportunity provided for our students.

A reminder please attending Extended School Day is a commitment. It is an expectation that students will attend each week and if unable to due to illness or an appointment, please remember to contact either your campus office or Amanda Baulch, the program coordinator.

IMPACT

YEAR 9

Our Year 9 students had the opportunity to go into the recording Studio Don't Poke The Bear in Geelong to record their radio play. Working with professionals they wrote and created an old fashion radio play with sound effects, and they produced an outstanding recording. The theme was "The Knock" and I think they created an excellent piece of work. You can hear the recording below.

YEAR 9 & 10 EXCURSION

Our Year 9 and 10 IMPACT class were lucky to see students from the Victorian College of The Arts perform at the prestigious Hamer Hall which is part of the Art precinct in Melbourne. This was followed by a tour of the Victorian College of the Arts, a possible location that many of our IMPACT students can go on to study at.

YEAR 10

Having a past student come back to work with our students has been a wonderful experience for our Year 10 students who are learning about the life of a Photographer and where it can take you.

Sharlene Vale, a past students of Norlane High and Corio Bay Senior College has her own business called SJV Photography and she has been passing on some very valuable skills to our students.
