Respect, Responsibility & Resilience

What's happening in our school?

Our school is committed to delivering  the Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships curriculum. Respectful Relationships is an initiative to promote respect and equality. It also supports educators to teach our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

Mrs Askraba's 1/2A class have been working on Stress Management. Stress is a normal part of life, especially as children get older. Children who cope better with life’s stressors develop good mental health and wellbeing. Assisting students to recognise their personal signs and symptoms of stress and develop effective strategies will help children cope with challenges in the future. (Respectful Relationships - Department of Education and Training)

Students chose their favourite strategies for dealing with their fears, anger and sadness to help make a bright display for their classroom. Each student wrote their favourite strategy for dealing with their stress on a paper balloon for 'Wobbly' to hold when his emotions are feeling a little wobbly.

All children can sometimes have trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep.

Children’s problems with sleep might be related to things like bedtime routines, sleep environments, unhealthy eating habits and lack of physical activity. Some simple changes to your child’s daytime and bedtime habits can often help with these issues.

Sometimes sleep behaviour can look like a problem, but it’s actually a common part of development – for example, night terrors, nightmares and sleepwalking. These types of issues might go away by themselves.

And sometimes illnesses, health conditions or anxiety can cause sleep problems. It’s a good idea for your child to see the GP if you think a health issue is affecting their sleep.
