NAIDOC March
On Friday 8 July 2022 a number of McCarthy staff and students attended the NAIDOC Community March. It was a privilege to walk with our Indigenous brothers and sisters to signify such an important moment. A massive gaba nginda to all those who were able to attend and those who sent in apologies. It means a great deal to our community and really shows how deadly our MCC mob is.
Work Experience
The last two terms have been a whirlwind with manyYear 10 students attending work experience, and it is not looking to slow down yet! We have had multiple students receive job offers and also looking at TVET and SBAT courses going forward. Our team continues to strive to ensure that all First Nations students feel supported when it comes to work experience and future employment.
St Nicholas Primary School NAIDOC Celebrations
Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Council were invited to support St Nicholas’ NAIDOC activities. The Student Council attended St Nicholas on Wednesday 20th July and were involved in a variety of activities including Lingo Bingo and Fly. A great time was had by both McCarthy and St Nicholas students. It is really lovely to see older students stepping up and being positive role models for junior students.
In-Class Cultural Perspective
Maddy and Lisa have been collaborating with Year 7 and 8 English, Technology and PE teachers to implement cultural perspective within their programs. They have been team-teaching in classes and have been enjoying sharing their stories and journeys.
Confirmation of NAIDOC Assembly
The date for the NAIDOC Assembly has been confirmed: Thursday 25 August 2022! More information will be provided closer to the date.
