2023 Captains - Last chance!

We are encouraging as many Year 11 students as possible to apply for a position of leadership in the College for 2023. The VCAL group is larger than the VCE group for the first time in many years, and those numbers should be represented in the College and House Captains. We will open the applications up for one more week to ensure we have the best pool possible to choose our leaders.

Course Counselling

Course Counselling is now complete and families have had multiple opportunities to follow up. We have hard copy and digital lists of any missing student information now available in the VCAL Learning Centre. If you know that your student has not completed this process and chosen a VET course for 2023, you need to get in touch with the VCAL team as soon as possible.

Year 10 Don’t Waste, Create Unit

Pallet Challenge!

Students have been challenged to upcycle pallets and turn them into something of more value. There are some interesting and creative ideas being demonstrated. Students are learning valuable lessons about the importance of challenging a disposable society.

Tony’s Farm

To highlight this unit, students have two opportunities to attend a local farm to immerse themselves in a sustainable and biodiverse environment whilst completing practical work. Some students missed out due to now having their consent completed in time, so please make sure you are across this for our second visit!

Year 11 Industry Unit

Industry Immersion Day

Students participated in an immersion day to understand the diversity of industries in our local community. They heard from apprenticeship and traineeship specialists, our local SWL Portal manager, student advocates from Chisholm and MCC teachers while completing a scavenger hunt and also getting involved in a student services fair held by Chisholm. Several of our students also received free haircuts from the barber salon in Chisholm training new hairdressers!

Victorian Tunnelling Centre

A fantastic experience in one of the biggest growth industries in Victoria. Students were treated to VR, AR and face-to-face experiences to learn about how these huge scale tunnels are built. The amount of opportunity in working in this industry is amazing.

MAS Careers Trailer

Thank you to MAS Experience for bringing the Careers Trailer out for our students to work through a series of practical tasks linked to several different trade industries. As always, it is great to get our hands into something to learn about how it applies to an industry.

Year 12 Measuring Our Impact Unit

Melbourne Zoo

Our year 12 group trekked out to Melbourne Zoo to participate in a SustainABILITY workshop run by zoo staff. Students created a partnership with the Zoo and will rely on them for feedback on their upcoming website that they will create to raise awareness of critical environmental issues.

Cranbourne Botanic Gardens

Students focused on biodiversity when they completed the Great Southern Land walk out at Cranbourne. They learned about different habitats and how they can be maintained or damaged in different ways. This lead to us creating our own biodiversity audit at MCC.

Biodiversity Audit

The results are in and our school scored an impressive score of 77 on the Resource Smart Schools biodiversity audit through Sustainability Victoria. Students now have the challenge to increase this score further by creating their own environmental project somewhere around the school. This is a great legacy for these students in their final year!

Senior Projects

Our senior students are also managing their Senior Project for 2022. This project is often the more anticipated and passionate project for our students. We have students completing Buddy Days at a local primary school, a staff car wash, a retaining wall project behind the gym, our legacy jacket project, running a football day for our junior school students and yes, the return of the VCAL Car Show. It is great to see our students apply their passions to a practical project for others in our community to enjoy.
