Book Week 2022

This year’s Book Week will be held from Monday 22/8 to Friday 26/8 and has some great opportunities, events and competitions – available to all students. There are some great activities for students who love books and reading, but also for those who love to write, discuss, draw, watch media, dress up, and win prizes!

There are daily challenges in the library each lunchtime, and some amazing guest presenters. We are incredibly fortunate to have writer and journalist Paul Kennedy, and comic book illustrator Dean Rankine speaking to interested students about their work and how they create it. Dean’s presentation includes an illustration workshop. There are three different Book Clubs, two of which require the book to be read in advance or see Eloise in the library to borrow a copy of the one you’re most interested in. There’s a book-to-film forum where you compare how a written scene has been interpreted for the scree; we will watch several versions of this and discuss choices made and choose our favourites. There are two exciting competitions for aspiring story writers and illustrators; see the attached flyers for more information. There is a free dress day on the Friday where students are encouraged to come dress as their favourite book character; there will be a parade in the library during lunchtime where the winners from each year level will receive prizes and house points. A gold coin donation will be required from any student not wearing uniform on this day.

See the attached booklet for all the events students can sign up for – students do need to sign up, they cannot simply show up during the lesson. See Eloise in the Library to collect the illustration page for the Illustration Challenge, and to sign up for events. There are limited spaces, you need to secure your spots!

If you have any further questions, you can ask Eloise or Senhora Sproule – we’d love to talk to you about Book Week!

This year’s theme: Dreaming with Eyes Open.
