Division Hockey

On Monday 25 July, the Senior Boys Hockey team travelled to the Hawthorn-Malvern Hockey Centre having made it to the SMR without having played a game.  After weeks of practice with their hitting and trapping they came up against two strong adversaries – Officer Secondary College and Melbourne High School. While the team played strongly, gaining confidence as the game progressed, particularly in defensive plays, they were unable to outplay these two teams.

It is exciting to think what the team will be capable of if they play together next year with more training and game play.

On Thursday 28 July, it was the Senior Girls Hockey team who played in the SMR finals. With a couple of late team changes, and the withdrawal of a school from the draw, Nossal was required to play Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School twice. It was a close competition with Nossal drawing the first match with a goal made from a short corner. Unfortunately, in the second match Mac.Robertson Girls’ scored a couple of goals to progress to the SMR grand final match.

A special acknowledgment goes to Regina who once again led the team, setting up positions and game plays. Congratulations to the team for their persistence in improving their ball control, game play and knowledge of the technical rules of hockey.

Cire College and Nossal High School Friendly

Two students from Cire College, Xavier and Riley, reached out earlier in the year to organise a friendly match with Nossal High School. Supported by Jue Lyas and Farhan, our Basketball Leaders, the parameters of the competition were established including the structure of teams, the round robin and dates.

On Tuesday 2 August the Cire College students came to play at Nossal High School. Six teams had been created, with each mixed-gender team comprised of students from Years 9-11 from Nossal and Cire College. Teams played several games, with the camaraderie between the students very evident. The Nossal students who were either playing or supporting demonstrated leadership and sportsmanship, cheering the feats of the students from Cire College and encouraging them.

Year 10 Peer Teaching

Currently the Year 10 PE students are undertaking their Peer Teaching unit. The purpose of this task is to provide students with the opportunity to assume a leadership role teaching their peers a new skill or game. It is through this process that students are encouraged to enhance their interpersonal skills, including effective communication, collaboration with peers, confidence, problem solving and specific feedback form improved performance.
