Principal's Notes

Dear families and friends,

We are still having on-going illnesses from our students, with the three C's (coughs, colds and Covid) still effecting our student's attendance each day. Thank you to all families who contact the school on the day of their child's absence as we need to keep official records of attendance.

Congratulations to Lexi for her winning the SWDFNL Shelley McDonald Junior League Award.  We are very proud of you!

Also, congratulations to Marni Luhrs for being the Runners Up A Grade League best & fairest for 2022.  (Ivy was so very proud and brought in Marni's trophy to show the students). Best wishes to all the netballers and footballers playing in the finals this weekend. GO BLOODS!

2022 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. All our families are invited to participate in the survey. An email will be sent home today with all the necessary log in information.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 15th August to Friday 16th September.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. Please speak to me if you would like more information.

School Council

Our next meeting will be held next Wednesday 17th August via WebEx. An email invitation has been sent today.

Book Week Dress Up Day

One of my favourite events on the school calendar is our annual Book Week celebration and dress up day.  On Thursday 25th August, we will be having our dress-up day. It is a really fun day for our students with lots of exciting costumes and activities. This years theme is "Dreaming with eyes open...". All families are very welcome to attend at 9am for the parade.

Home Reading Program

We highly value our students home reading at Cavendish Primary School. Developing a nightly home reading routine is paramount to children’s reading success.

The school sees the most reading growth in students who are committed to a nightly home reading routine. Thank you to families that continue to return home reading books and assist with a home reading routine.

We strongly encourage all children to read to for at least 10-30 minutes (age dependent) every night at home. Schools provide many activities, learning routines that teach our learners how to read – the consolidation of this learning happens with an evening reading routine.

Wimmera South West Principal Forum

I will be attending the forum next Monday at Hamilton Exhibition & Conference Centre. Some of the agenda items will be : Resourcing, discussions about the implementation of the Victorian Government Schools Agreement  and the implementation of school improvement initiatives positively impacting learning and wellbeing. Mrs Murray will be teaching the F/1 class for the morning while I am absent.

Student Free Day

Friday 9th September will be a student free day.  No students are required at school this day.  Staff will undergo a required Professional Development on this day.

Junior School Council

Today, our JSC hosted a movie, popcorn and hot chocolate treat for all students. This was a lovely treat for all our students hard work this term. Thanks to JSC and Mrs Brabham.
