St Mary’s Parish Prayer
God our Father, as we thank you for the blessings, we ask you to bless this Parish of yours, so that
we may love you more.
Encircle our families with your loving care.
Help parents to be good examples to their
children and our youth to grow in strength as good Christians.
To the sick grant health, to the aged bring serenity and to those in sorrow, joy.
May we grow stronger in faith and may
our love for one another become deeper
in our daily living.
We make this through the intercession of our Mother Mary. Amen

NEW - On the Lighter Side
The Sadducees didn't believe in the afterlife.
That is why they were so sad, you see!
Updated - Prayer of The Week
God of all the living, in the resurrection of Christ Jesus you have given us the life which even death cannot destroy. Remember your unshakable promise and strengthen us to live in this world as your new creation. Amen. (Roman Missal !CEL 1998)
Updated - Looking at the Readings
The readings for this Sunday and the next have a sense of the end or completion of time. They also speak of the resurrection of the faithful and the resurrection of Christ. The doctrine of the resurrection slowly evolved over centuries. We see people and communities struggle with the teaching. More than raising someone from the dead to new life which we see in Lazarus and the son of the widow of Nain - resurrection is an event that is quite different. First of all resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion and burial gave us a new experience, a deeper understanding, and richer faith in the marvellous deeds of God.
The Old Testament book, second Maccabees, gives an “M rated” account of seven brothers who in the face of death profess the resurrection. They believed in the resurrection of a faithful community at the end of time. By the time of Christ belief in the resurrection was well established but not universally accepted; the Sadducees held out and moreover distorted the understanding of the resurrection of the dead to attack it in a ludicrous case of a life after death.
Jesus responded to their question, as he did so often, not with learned argument but by quoting familiar prayers and Holy Scripture. “God is a God of the living” and the “the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob” (Psalm 84, Exodus 3:6). May our prayer and daily scripture strengthen our belief in the resurrection.

Our Parish at St Mary's
- Do you love coming along to mass each week?
- Would you like to see our church continue to be a prayerful place for you and your family to come together each week?
- Do you enjoy special events like anniversary masses, baptisms, weddings?
- Have you noticed our every changing altar displays?
- Do you enjoy our overhead Caritas stories during Lent?
- Are you happy to be part of our wonderful Christmas celebration in the Marian Centre?
If you answer YES to any of these questions, then we would love to hear from you.
Our Liturgy Team, headed up by Mavis Murphy and Liz Donnelly are appealing to you, our valued parishioners, to step up and volunteer your services to assist in some of these areas.
We know you all have special skills and gifts in different areas and we would like you to share them with us.
- Some people have wonderful skills for Proclaiming the Word of the Lord and therefore reading at mass would be their contribution.
- Others have a special calling to be part of our mass by offering themselves as a Special Minister.
- Some of you have the beautiful gift of music and could volunteer and help out our Music Ministry team.
- You may be very good at handling money and would be a great asset joining our Bingo Team or perhaps assisting our Counters after mass occasionally.
Next weekend we will have speakers at both masses. They will expand on the various ministries and we will distribute a form for you all to fill out and return to Mons Peter or the Parish Office.
Thank you so much for caring for St. Mary’s.
