Outdoor Education Day, November 2018

From the Head of Primary, Wayne Revitt

Primary Instrumental Concert

The Primary Instrumental Concert on Tuesday 30 October was wonderful! The standard of performance by all involved was outstanding. The values we aspire to develop in our students shone through in each performance; mistakes were honoured as first attempts, children persevered and tried until they got it right, there was a strong feeling of support for one another and delight in the achievements of others. A particular highlight was the ensembles, where the individual talents were brought together to create some amazing performances. The outstanding tuition of our music tutors and teachers has enabled some of our students to further develop as musicians by writing, composing and performing their own songs.  Congratulations to Music Coordinator, Rory Marchant and his very talented team of music tutors for their commitment and ongoing development of our future musicians.

Outdoor Classroom Day

This year John Wollaston joined over 2,000 schools in Australia by participating in Outdoor Classroom Day. On Thursday 1 November, classes from Little Wollies to Year 4 took their classes outdoors as part of a nationwide campaign to encourage outdoor learning as a means of increasing engagement, developing problem-solving skills, teamwork and creativity. Thank you to Early Learning Centre Coordinator, Melissa Forslun for introducing this initiative to our school and for being a great advocate for outdoor learning.

Year 2 Encounter

The countdown to the Year 2 overseas adventure has finally come to an end as our Emu and Possum students set off on their journey to Rottnest Island this morning. This Encounter is an opportunity for the Year 2 students to demonstrate resilience and risk-taking, crossing the sea on the Rottnest Ferry to enjoy a day of adventure on Rottnest Island. Swathed in sunscreen, the students spent the day discovering the features of the island by walking to the Vlamingh Memorial Lookout and the Bathurst Lighthouse, taking pictures of quokkas, swimming in the sea and building sandcastles on the beach. Thank you to the Year 2 staff for their meticulous preparation for this grand adventure.
