HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL

It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes all find their cliques. Will they stick to the status quo?

Ringwood Secondary College has embraced thousands of young performers over the many year of producing musical productions.

In 2021 we are proud to present our very first MIDDLE SCHOOL PRODUCTION: "High School Musical"

We aim to encourage and embrace our new emerging talent.

Our students have been rehearsing and eager to share with you their show next weekend, however book in fast as tickets will sell fast due to Covid Restrictions.

You can purchase your tickets at:

Lunar New Year Celebration 12th February 2021

On Friday February 12, the International Students and some other Chinese students enjoyed Chinese New Year by organizing a celebratory lunch. Some of the volunteering students, Eric Yang, Fanwen Zheng, Coey Lui, Renee Lui, Sheryn Woo, Aiden Liu and Hugh Tang have helped us to clean up the classroom before and after the event.

All the students and I have worked tirelessly to make this event a huge success! We were excited to see the amount of enthusiasm and effort the students put in by bringing in different food and drinks under the COVID restrictions. I would like to thank all the students who participated in this event and made it happen.

With the official Chinese New Year taking place on the same day welcoming the year of the Ox, we were all excited to have this opportunity to celebrate and forge lasting friendships early in the year.  We look forward to continuing this event annually!

Happy New Year!

Music Report for Newsletter

Thank you to all our music students and staff who assisted in making our recent Recruitment Night so successful. Welcome to all the year sevens who have joined our program from that evening.  By now you should have received notification via email regarding what instrument you have been accepted on. For any students who missed attending Recruitment Night, and who wish to join the program, we still have places available on Flute, Trumpet, French Horn, Cello, Double Bass, Euphonium and Tuba.  If you are interested in any of these instruments or would like to join our Junior Choir, please contact our Performing Arts Secretary, Mrs Sedergreen, via email on rsedergreen@ringwoodsc.vic.edu.au , or come and see us in the Performing Arts Centre.

Rehearsals commenced this week for our year seven ensembles. Training Band rehearses each Thursday at 7.30am in the Hall. Training Strings rehearse each Thursday lunch in Room 700. Everyone must attend these rehearsals even if you do not have an instrument.

All orders for music jackets are due. If you have not ordered yet and need to, please contact Mrs Sedergreen as soon as possible.

Also please pay for music ties at the General Office and bring receipt to the PAC Office to collect your tie.

Music Photos will be Tuesday 30 March in the College Hall. Just a reminder that all ensembles will be in Performance Uniform EXCEPT Training Strings, Training Band and Junior Choir. These three ensembles will be in College Uniform. More information regarding this event will be published on COMPASS soon.

Storage and labelling of instruments.

We are now approaching full capacity in our storage rooms for instruments, which means all students need to ensure that their instrument is clearly labelled with their name and it is stored appropriately. Those who own instruments need to insure them. Please note instruments insured on household contents policies are not covered outside the home. They are not covered whilst in transit to and from school, whilst on school premises, or on any excursions. The College cannot take responsibility for any damage, loss or theft of instruments. Please note that hired instruments are also the sole responsibility of the person hiring the instrument. Also, all instruments must be taken home at the end of each day. No instruments should be left in the storerooms overnight.

Our Music Association needs your help!

The Music Association is looking for new members in 2021.  It really is a great way to become part of your child’s journey through the music program, to meet other parents and to find out a little more about what happens behind the scenes at the college.

The Music Association is a parent group, which actively supports the Music Program by assisting front of house at concerts; serving suppers and fundraising to purchase much needed instruments (the ones that are too expensive for families to buy) and equipment.  They have a longstanding place in the history of the college and want to ensure that they remain viable long into the future. The committee meets approximately twice per term on a Monday evening. Their final “meeting” for the year is a social dinner in late November or early December. As mentioned on Wednesday night, most of our meetings will be online as we are aware how busy families are.

Our Annual General Meeting is on Monday, 15 March at 7.00pm and you are cordially invited to come along, meet all involved and find out a bit more about what they do and how they do it.

If you cannot attend on the 15 March, please feel free to call the Music Association’s President Trudy Brewster on 0425806460 or send an email to trudy.brewster01@gmail.com if you would like to find out more about the RSC Music Association and how you could assist even if you are unable to attend meetings. The RSC Music Association would love to hear from you.
