Year 8 Cyber Safety Day
On Tuesday 16 February the Year 8 cohort participated in a Cyber Safety day. Students were guided through a program which consisted of informative videos, a presentation from two experienced police liaison officers, the viewing of a Brainstorm Production and the completion of a booklet. All activities allowed us to reflect and learn about how to stay safe online.
The day was very beneficial as we gained a number of skills when it comes to safely using our devices. Some of the stories that were shared by our guest speakers where quite shocking and revealed the hidden dangers of engaging in online activities.
Our digital footprint was discussed and we were reminded about how anything we access, comment on or post is permanently tracked by internet providers. We also talked about the importance of keeping private accounts on social media and making sure to avoid disclosing personal information such as age and location.
We were also involved in multiple activities that allowed us to think about how long we spend on screens in a day, week, and fortnight. These activities were extremely useful as some students were shocked with their findings and were unaware of exactly how much time they spend online. The information and discussions shared encouraged all boys to consider making positive changes to their social media and device use.
