The Year 12 Assessment Block commenced this week, a little earlier than previous years, on Monday 22 February with English Advanced and English Standard and will conclude on Wednesday 3 March with Mathematics Extension 1. From subject to subject the assessments are quite varied in type, structure and format and include, but are not limited to, written responses to pre-published stimulus materials, oral presentations and practicals.
Parents and boys of Year 12 are reminded that in the event of absenteeism due to illness or misadventure during the Assessment Block, to contact the Year Coordinator, Mr Texeira, on the morning of the assessment. Where possible, the missed assessment or a substitute will be arranged within the Assessment Block period. On the boys' return to school, a medical certificate for the illness/misadventure must be given to the relevant Faculty Leader and Mr Texeira.

Year 12 Geography Urban Places Fieldwork Trip
On Monday 15 February, the Year 12 Geographers undertook fieldwork for their case study of a large city in the developed world. The Stage 6 Geography course prescribes that student engage with fieldwork to acquire knowledge by observing, mapping and recording phenomena in the real world. These opportunities are invaluable to enhancing the content knowledge and drawing connections between theoretical concepts and their real-world existence.
Throughout the day the students used a variety of equipment, such as range finders and sound level meters, to gather primary data about the effects of the land use changes in the Pyrmont and Barangaroo areas. Furthermore, the students used a variety or satellite images and photographs to compare the streetscapes’ changes over time. The opportunity to observe these changes firsthand allowed the Year 12 Geographers to see how the urban dynamics have changed and shaped the city of Sydney.
The students are to be congratulated on their enthusiasm and participation in all the activities on the day.
