HOUSE SWIMMIMG CARNIVAL – Written and shared by our Sports Captain, Chloe Teo

On Monday the 1st of March, we had the house swimming carnival for years 3-6. The event was meant to happen in February but was postponed due to the 5 day lockdown. It took place at the Harold Holt Swim Centre. Although the weather was gloomy, it did not dampen the energy and excitement at our very first school sports event of the year.

There were five races that students could participate in - Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly and the Novelty race.  There were many opportunities for participation. My favourite event was the student versus teacher race. It was such a close race it was impossible to pick a winner. Well done to the students and teachers.

This was the first time where the swimming carnival was live streamed for the parents who were unable to attend. Parents could watch and cheer for their children from afar. Thank you to Mr. Acklom and the team for making the livestream possible.

I would like to congratulate Koornang for winning the House swimming carnival. Thank you to everyone who participated in the races and showed great sportsmanship. It’s important to bear in mind that winning isn’t everything and we should have fun and give it a go.  Congratulations to all the swimmers who received a placing and had the opportunity to represent CPS in Districts.

DISTRICT SWIMMING CARNIVAL – Written and shared by our Sports Captain, Angus Brown

On Thursday March 4, the Carnegie swim squad made their way to GESAC sports and aquatic centre for district swimming championships. Everybody there tried their very hardest, and nothing was left out there in those waves. The support and sportsmanship were inspiring, lifting all the district up with a positive attitude. I would love all the district swimming team to please stand up to give them a big round of applause.

Now I know everyone that competed participated with flying colours, there were some achievements that I would like to acknowledge a little further. Patrick M, Johnny P, Sasha B, Asha H and Emily C were all able to bring home multiple gold place performances and will now compete at the division swimming carnival on 15th March. Another shout out I would like to give, is to both Alex C and Sophie J for showing maturity as they were the youngest there. Finally, all our other place getters and athletes, for trying their best and having a blast.

Everyone who competed showed remarkable skill and teamwork throughout the day, which paid off as we came 2nd overall in the district. I want to thank Ms Remfry, Mrs Slattery and Mr Pollard for making this all possible. Go Carnegie!
