SENSATIONAL YEAR 6 CAMP

On Friday our Year 6 students returned from a fabulous three days at Camp Manyung.  The weather was perfect for the brilliant activities planned, including hours at the beach. Our 2020 Year 5 team didn’t have the opportunity to attend a camp last year due to Covid restrictions which made these days together all the more special.

The staff also ‘sang the praises’ of the students for the manner in which they participated in the camp and I would like to publicly thank the CPS staff involved in the camp –  Ms Sue McGregor (as the team leader), Mrs Spataro, Ms Remfry, Ms Buzcko, Mrs Roberts, Mrs Slattery, Mr Pollard and Mr Landes.

Mrs Grimm and I were fortunate enough to spend a day each at the camp site and it was a pleasure being with our students watching them enjoying numerous outdoor activities specially designed to engage them while at the same time developing initiative, risk taking and team work.

I personally am touched by how particularly persistent some of the ‘quieter’ achievers are when faced with the wide range of challenges such camps offer that is beyond the activities children usually pursue at home. Their efforts are something of which to be most proud.

I hope the mums and dads enjoyed sharing some of the highlights with their child over the weekend.

We are so fortunate to have staff that are committed and passionate to ensure our camping programs are of such a high quality.

SCHOOL EXPO/OPEN MORNING

Saturday 8th May

Parents who are aware of friends, neighbours or relatives who have a child ready to start school in 2022, please let them know that we are planning our annual School Expo for Saturday 8th May, from 10am till 12pm.

We encourage prospective families to join us on this occasion so we can share many of the fine aspects of our school. Further details will be shared when we return next term.

LUNCHTIME ACTIVITIES – Happy/Active Kids 😊

A focus for all schools is providing a safe and welcoming playground for all our students during recess and lunch breaks. Our children’s interests and needs are diverse. We have large, well-resourced grounds that accommodate our students. Some of the activities that are offered are:-

  • Time in our fantastic gym or on the oval. These spaces are timetabled across a week to allow opportunities for all year levels to access the spaces.
  • Building and creating in one of our four sandpits. If you have any pre loved buckets, spades, trucks or large containers they are much appreciated. Simply drop them off at the office.
  • Quieter times drawing, colouring or creating in our Arts area. We have recently set up some tubs of equipment with Ms Bolger, as well as Sasha and Dan our 2021 Arts Captains supporting this activity.
  • Playing with friends on the playgrounds including the wonderful new ‘treehouse’ near our portables. Some of these are timetabled for year levels to allow fair and respectful access for all.
  • Joining in a game of basketball, netball or four square on one of our courts. There are some robust competitions occurring, at times, with fine skills being developed.
  • Construction using the blocks etc under the prep and main building verandas. Last year we purchased large outside games, such as dominoes & quoits. These tubs will be reintroduced now the lovely Autumn days are upon us
  • Challenging a friend to a game of chess on our large chess set. Two chess tables were recently purchased and will be installed shortly to allow for more children to choose this activity
  • From term two lunchtime library, lunchtime games (both inside and outside), Envirostars, Junior School Council and lunchtime choir will be offered on a rotational basis.
