Dear Families,
Surfing: I had the best start to the week thanks to the Year 6’s! Their surfing program started on Monday and I was fortunate enough to sneak down and see them in the surf and spend some time with them. The sheer joy expressed by the kids in the water swimming and surfing was infectious. Thanks to the families who have helped out with supervising and walking down to the beach. I know I talk a lot about optimism and gratitude but it made me really appreciate again, how lucky we are to live and work where we do. Last week I mentioned Russell Quaglia, a presenter from the US that Kristy, Andy and I were lucky to be engaged with. He told stories about how some schools have not been open for over 12 months now and children have not been at school. So now we are back (and hopefully uninterrupted), let’s make the most of it.
Crossing Supervisor: We have a new supervisor on Field St North. We welcome Sue to the fold as she helps our families make it safely to and from school. I popped down and met Sue and her family last week and she told me one of her sons is in training to be a crossing supervisor too. Please make Sue and her family (who sometimes come up to the crossing as well) welcome and don’t be afraid to say thanks to Laurie and Ross for helping across the road.
Newsletter format: we hope you are enjoying the new format Anna Bourke is delivering each week. Did you notice the language option in the bottom left corner? We discovered that the newsletter can also be translated into so many languages at the touch of a button.
Inclusive Schools Grant: last week I submitted one of the most comprehensive grant applications I have been a part of. Greg Pascoe-Leahy has led a great team of parents and community organisations to support our application. Kings landscaping have helped prepare and cost the plan that incorporates student voice from this year’s Year 6’s. Last year the Year 5’s (now Year 6’s) designed and planned a playground for where the old Kitchen Garden is. This information was shared with Kings to help develop the concept. If we are successful, we will further develop the plan and finalise the scope. Please see the concept plan below. Cross your fingers we receive the grant!
On behalf of the school can I thank Greg and everyone involved for the time and effort that has gone into this. We look forward to hearing the outcome!!!
School Council: We met online last night and discussed various aspects of school life. We have a few retiring school councillors – Josh Dunne, Nathan Hill, Belle Donald and Jeremy Furyk. On behalf of the entire school community, can I please thank and acknowledge the contribution these three have made in their time. We appreciate that that you have entered council with a clear vision to make the school an even better place and for that we are grateful.
Lost Property: Please don’t forget to label all items of school clothing! We have an enormous amount of lost property.
Sunsmart: Don’t forget to bring your hat each day, wear sunscreen, reapply your own sunscreen and keep an eye on the UV index either on the news, in the paper or online.
Brainstorm Theatre: Yesterday we had some very talented performers (Daniel & Steph) put on a Cybersafety and wellbeing performance for the students. We hope you can build on the information they shared and ask some great questions to elicit a detailed response from your child.
School Photos: Book in at the hair dressers quick! Friday is the day for School photos!
Have a great week everyone.
