Acting Principal Michelle Mackenlay

Reminders

Next Monday 17th May, is a Curriculum Day. This means students do not attend school. Our staff will be participating in some professional development as well as using some of the day for semester two report writing.

We are holding a Whole School Assembly on Tuesday 18th May at 2:45pm  (weather permitting). This will take place on the basketball court and parents and friends are welcome to attend.

Clyde TV is being broad cast on Friday 21st May at 3:00pm. Clyde TV is filmed and hosted by our Year 6 School Leaders that highlights all the wonderful learning happening across Clyde Primary School. Parents are highly encouraged to join us in our classrooms to view the program with their children. The show features stories from each year level, including specialist subjects, and is a fantastic way to see the learning happening in our school.

National Simultaneous Storytime

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. It is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.

On the 19th May, our students will be part of an intergalactic experience with the NSS 2021 book titled ‘Give Me Some Space’ written and illustrated by Philip Bunting being read by the astronaut Dr Shannon Walker from the International Space Station. Students will also participate in some activities relating to the text throughout the week. For more information, you can click on the link https://www.alia.org.au/nss

Thank You for Mother's Day

Last Friday we celebrated Mother’s Day with our whole school picnic event and Mother’s Day stall. We would like to thank all of our parent helpers that helped with the stall. Photos of this event are included in this issue of our newsletter.

Catch Up Programs

During Term One, a number of students across the school were selected to participate in tutoring and intervention programs. Each group of students were given access to a 5 week intensive program in reading, writing, spelling or numeracy. The first round of tutoring and intervention programs have now been completed and students are currently being assessed to identify how much progress they have made and to determine next steps. Over the next week teachers will discuss in the Professional Learning Teams individual student progress and then decide which student will be selected for the next round. This process will continue throughout the year based on student assessment and progress.

If your child has participated in the first round they may be selected again or may be selected later on this year.

Cross Country Update

On Wednesday 5th May, 48 students from Years 3-6, went to Casey Fields to compete in District Cross Country. All the students went really well, had fun and tried their best on the day. Well done to all the students that competed, it was a great achievement to make it to District.  Thank you also to our parent helpers who assisted at the event!

We had 3 students that were in the top 10 for their age group and will now compete at Division Cross Country on Wednesday 2nd June. These 3 students are Kiera (3D), Dhiya

(4A) and Lucas (5/6B). Congratulations and well done, I am sure you will do us all very proud.

Visit From Our Local MP

Look out for some of our students in  the next issue of the local Star Newspaper, including Student Agency Representatives, Chelsea and Levi, who with School Captains and Vice Captains, Saxon, Yom, Thomas and Ayla today met with our local member of parliament, Jordan Crugnale. Jordan visited our new building site and donated some brand new books to our school library.

We have approximately 50 of the red chairs and 30 of the grey chairs that are free to anyone that may want some.  If you would like some or all of them, and can collect them by Friday 21st May, contact the office with the quantity and time of pick up.  Please note we cannot hold them past the end of the week and it will be first in first served.
