Year 6 News

Badge Ceremony

On Tuesday 23 February, we had a whole school ceremony to present leadership badges to the 2021 School Captains, School Vice Captains, House Captains and House Vice Captains.

The students who were presented with their badges all applied for positions of leadership as you would apply for any job… they wrote a speech explaining how they would fulfil the role of captain and presented their speeches to their peers and teachers. This process began at the end of 2020.

The Year 5 and Year 6 staff together with Mrs Duffy, Mrs Simpson and specialist teachers decided on the students who they felt would be best suited to each job.

Our 2 School captains and 4 Vice captains were chosen because of the way they show respect, kindness and responsibility in their everyday interactions.  They are reliable, hardworking and demonstrate independence and maturity in their comments and actions.

Our 8 House Captains and 8 House Vice Captains were voted for by their peers and our Physical Education staff members. They too are committed to their roles in supporting students and teachers with preparation for school and interschool sporting events.

All of our Year 6 students are leaders of the school and are held in high regard by their teachers and fellow students. Being a leader at BNPS is not just about students receiving a badge in February – it’s about taking responsibility for the role that has been accepted and demonstrating integrity throughout the whole school year and into the future.

It is an honour to have been selected out of over 100 children to be the Year 6 captains for 2021 and all students and their families should be very proud of this achievement.

We are already very impressed by the 2021 Year 6 cohort and are looking forward to an exciting year ahead!
