Year 5 News

What a fortnight it has been in Year 5! Once again, the students adapted well to the ‘circuit breaker’ lockdown, demonstrating resilience and taking it all in their stride. We were impressed by the ICT skills they retained from last year and enjoyed seeing them online for our optional Tuesday and Wednesday check-ins.

Our first Unit of Inquiry is focused on examining perspectives and how this can affect an individual’s actions. We have been using a number of picture books to explore this concept, examining how authors use tone and mood to influence their audience and analysing how characters can view events from a different perspective. Following on from this, we are exploring persuasive writing, understanding that there is often more than one point of view on a particular topic. We are learning how to structure our writing in order to convince our audience, as well as use a number of persuasive literary techniques.

Well done to all the students that applied to be a Year 5 representative for the 2021 Student Agency Team. We were impressed by the quality of speeches and the confidence of students when speaking in front of their peers and teacher. We congratulate the following students representing Year 5 in this exciting position and look forward to hearing more about their ideas for our school. They are: Oskar E (5A), Charlotte R (5B), Genevieve L (5C) and Mei W (5D).

We remind students to be at school on Friday mornings at 8.30am for Interschool Sports. Students should report directly to their coach’s classroom, with buses leaving promptly at 8.45am. Please feel free to pack an extra snack on these days as students exert a lot of energy, particularly on days with a double header.
