Year 4 News

We Are Underway In Year 4!

This is our first official homework week. We encourage parents to read the Homework Guidelines that were distributed to students on Monday so you are aware of the expectations and can work with us to ensure children create good habits and meet due dates. Reading with or to your child is something we encourage as this develops all of our CAFÉ strategies – Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency and Expanding Vocabulary.

Students are working hard on their current Unit of Inquiry learning about how lucky we are in our community to have our rights respected. Children worked on a learning task today that focused on comprehension and understanding the Convention on the Rights of a Child. We are trying hard to answer all questions in full sentences.

Yesterday we had some very successful Year 4’s compete in the District Swimming Carnival. Congratulations to all who attended. Your behaviour and attitude was commendable and we were proud to be leading a mature, respectful team. Special mention to Charlie in 4A who won the Under 10 freestyle and will progress to the next round and represent BNPS in the divisional swimming competition.

We are working on Place Value in Maths and in English we are focusing on being a “word thief” and learning to answer questions comprehensively in full sentences! We have been writing Narratives in response to a picture prompt and in ICT we have begun the Cybersafety Project. Children have been learning about safely constructed passwords and ways to remember them.

We also conducted our SAT (Student Action Team) speeches during the week to elect our class representatives. Students spoke of the things they could offer the school and students. Well done to those risk takers who stood up in front of their peers and delivered well-constructed, clear, creative speeches.

The “successful applicants” were…

4A: Dakotah K

4B: Pippa S

4C: Charlotte M

4D: Liam C

We look forward to them representing their peers in the near future.

We asked some grade 4’s what they thought the best thing about Year 4 was so far.

Hobie said, “I think swimming, the basketball courts and the oval”

Claudia said, “I like it how we do a Learning Intention”

Harper said, “I like maths because you can do craft and colouring in too”

Liam agreed that swimming has been the best thing so far.
