Year 3 News

Year Three Firsts!!

There are many exciting ‘firsts’ to look forward to in Year 3. Our current Year 3 students have already experienced many of them.

These include: Junior Choir, applying for the Student Agency Team (SAT), Joining writing, using OneNote and developing independent reading habits.

Junior Choir

The Junior Choir meet each Tuesday afternoon and will be given the opportunity to perform at assemblies and concerts. The students love attending Choir and it is great to hear them happily singing their choir songs when they return to class.

Student Agency Team (SAT)

Year 3 is the first opportunity students have to apply for the SAT. This was previously known as the Junior Council. Interested students had to prepare a speech for their class about the qualities that would make them a good Year 3 representative. The classes then voted for one person to join the team.

Congratulations to the following successful applicants:

Harriet 3A, Xavier 3B, Max 3C and Ellen 3D

Handwriting

Throughout the junior school, the students have been learning Victorian Cursive Script. They have been learning about entry strokes and exit strokes which assists them when they come to join their letters.

The Year 3 students are very enthusiastic about learning to join their letters and in Semester Two they can earn their “Joining Licence.”

OneNote

This week the Year 3 students have been learning to use OneNote. This is an online platform where students can complete and share their work with their teachers.

It is clear that most students have developed excellent tech skills with their use of Microsoft Teams last year during Remote Learning. We are very proud of how the students have quickly learnt to use this new platform.

Independent Reading

In Year 3 the students are responsible for their own reading diaries. They are required to fill in all of their own reading and return it to school each day.

They can independently choose their reading material following our CAFÉ ‘I PICK’ method for choosing a good fit book.
