Music 2021

We have all “hit the ground running”, so to speak, to make up for having such a compromised year in 2020.

Our focus, at the moment is singing and dancing, enjoying making music together. The whole school is learning a song called “Thank You for Being a Friend” by Andrew Gold. This has been chosen in line with the well-being theme for Term 1 which is “Great Mates”.

There have been some opportunities for Junior and Senior classes to come together to share dances and songs:

  • Year 6 students had a chance to sing through it with the Year 1 classes and share a dance called “Highway Number 1”
  • Preps joined Year 4 to sing the song also. While we were together, we also shared a dance from France called “Bear Dance” and then had some time to draw about our experience. Here is an example:

This year’s newly reconstituted School Band has started learning to play Mrs Fine’s arrangement of the same song, ready to play in an up-coming Well-Being assembly.

Senior Music students have greatly enjoyed dancing together and remembering dances from other cultures they have learned previously, while Junior grades have been enjoying musical games.

Junior and Senior choirs have made a good start also and, soon, there will be a new lunchtime ensemble just for Year 4 students starting as well.

Performance plans, for later in the year, are coming together nicely. We hope to make 2021 a year to celebrate the very special way in which music-making brings us all together.
