Leading by example

From the Deputy's Desk
Since our last Newsletter, I am pleased to have seen lots of students and staff demonstrating how to act, work, dress and talk using the actions, effort, clothing/uniform, and language that we expect at Boorowa Central School. As part of Healthy Lunchbox Week, some staff and students shared photos of their lunchboxes which you can see with this article. The extra bit of effort to make a healthy lunch helps us to get through the day with a clearer head, is cheaper than buying packet foods and is better for the environment.
Our staff are always demonstrating the appropriate ways to act and talk at school, by being prepared for every lesson and by speaking respectfully to all students, colleagues, and members of the school community. By modelling these behaviours, it helps our students to recognise that hard work and appropriate, friendly language is what is expected at school by everyone who attends Boorowa Central School as well as in the workplace and other places in our community.
Staff must also abide by the Code of Conduct to wear clothing appropriate to the subjects that they teach and expect students to do the same. As our school community has agreed that we are a uniform school, we expect that all students attend each day in correct school uniform. We appreciate, however, that children grow, washing machines break down and things happen so that children don't always have the correct uniform to wear. If this happens, please send a note with your child to explain why they are not in full uniform as well as how long it will be until they will be back in full uniform.
A school is a training place for work. Just like an employer, teachers expect students to be at 'work' for the hours of the school day, to do the 'work' of school which is to listen, look and engage in the classroom each lesson. They are also expected to wear the clothing of school work, which is the uniform, to use the words of learning, which are appropriate to the learning setting, and will be paid with marks, certificates and knowledge.
Regular attendance for students helps to ensure continuity of learning, so that regardless of the year they are in, students will experience progression in their learning which helps them to achieve great results. Please send a note with your child when they return after illness, to explain why they have been away.
Our school is a great place for your child to get ready for the world and work.
