Principal's Report

The numbers are in!
Our enrolments have increased this year from 177 students to a total of 203 from Kindergarten to Year 12. The word is out that Boorowa Central School is a great place for all children to gain an excellent education in a happy, inclusive learning environment.
COVID-19 Literacy and Numeracy Intervention
Every NSW Department of Education school has been allocated funding to be used for Literacy and Numeracy intervention. This funding is to be used for small group support of students who have been impacted by COVID-19 in 2020. Boorowa Central School is in the process of identifying students and developing the program to address their learning needs. The Literacy and Numeracy support will be delivered by experienced teachers Mrs Carol Harpley (3 days a week in Infants/Primary) and Mrs Deb Valencic (2 days a week in Secondary) with the support of Mrs Amanda Ingall and under the leadership and coordination of our Instructional Leader Ms Trudy Mahoney. Further information for the students involved will be sent home to families next week.
Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to the green-house for winning the swimming carnival. It was by the narrowest margins that they were victorious and I couldn't help but reflect on the 'experiment' I conducted in our secondary assembly last week. In an attempt to reinforce our sense of inclusivity here at Boorowa Central School I divided the secondary students into their house groups and treated them very differently. I treated them differently to emphasis that despite our differences, together we are one school and that we support each other in all that we do. During this experiment, the green-house rallied and developed an attitude of proving that they are the better house at the swimming carnival. Well, they sure did that.
A special thanks must go out to our volunteers who helped on the day and to the organisers of the carnival. Despite the inclement weather in the afternoon, the day ran smoothly and was enjoyed by all. We have many students in primary heading off to Cowra next week to represent the school at the PSSA district carnival. Good luck to these swimmers.

Welcome BBQ
It was great to see so many smiling faces at our BBQ on Tuesday afternoon. We hadn't been able to host such an event for 12 months so it was great to see everyone onsite again. Whilst I didn't manage to talk to all of our visitors I was able to cook a sausage sandwich for everyone and play some cricket with the kids. Thank you to those families who came and gave up their afternoon to social with the staff, students, P&C members and families of Boorowa Central School.
Year 11 Study Skills Day
Our Year 11 students participated in a study skills day on Wednesday with Murrumburrah High school students in Harden. All of the students thoroughly enjoyed the day and found useful strategies for their Stage 6 studies. Thank you to Mrs Lauren Mason of Murrumburrah High for organising the day.
Year 12 Wollongong excursion
Our Year 12 students went on an excursion to Wollongong this week to experience the Wollongong University open day. The students had the opportunity to explore the campus and learn about university life. These excursions are always an eye-opening experience for the students and one that often motivates them to work hard to achieve their best ATAR.
Year 7 and 11 camp
A camp has been booked for the 2021 7 and 11 camp. Our focus was to find an affordable camp within 3 hours of Boorowa that offers all of our chosen activates. Further information about the camp will be communicated in the coming weeks to ensure that relevant families have plenty of time to pay for the experience. Initially, families will be asked to pay a deposit and then pay contributions in the lead up to the camp to ensure the financial impact will be spread over time. If you require financial assistance for the camp please contact me at the school.
