Home Learning – How to study?

Developing regular study habits lays the foundation for success as students progress through their secondary school years. The table below outlines the number of recommended hours students should spend on home learning per week.

Below are a few tips to make studying easier:

1. Plan and Get Organised

Planning and staying organised are keys to success in secondary school. Students are reminded to use Teams, Outlook or a hard copy diary to document home learning tasks. ‘How to’ guides can be found by using the QR links below. Document due dates and break long-term PBLs into chunks and complete them one at a time.

2. Develop Good Study Habits

Set aside a specific time every day or week for studying. Determine whether studying as a group or alone is best. Go to bed and wake up at the same time each day and limit distractions such as social media and video games.

Remember home learning club runs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:15pm -4: 15pm.

A great technique to use to develop good study habits is called the pomodoro technique

3. Take Notes

Once you understand the material, take notes after your session. Write down the main concepts, key vocabulary and anything else that will help you to review the material later. Retaining information will be easier if you take good notes.

A great technique to use is called the blurting method
