Gardening Program

Gardening Program

Dear Families

This year we started our gardening program which all year levels have been involved in regular session during the term.

Students have embraced gardening activities with enthusiasm and great interest. During the 50-minute sessions we have a mix of seasonal activities like watering, weeding, planting, seed collection, tea harvest, compost management and by far the most popularactivity, cooking/tasting.

In Term 1 all students had the opportunity to eat tomatoes from our garden and the figs picked from our trees. We also made delicious blueberry ice cream.

This Term we raised yellow bean seedlings from seeds, then planted them in our veggie patch and now are lucky to start harvesting and eating them. Students also planted broccoli, kale and cauliflower seeds as well as potatoes and they are looking forward to some potato wedges in a few months.

After school on a Friday, we will have the occasional sale of some excess produce from our garden like herbs, seeds or seedlings. BYO bags and lots of gold coins. To follow our program, check out our garden corner display on the left from the office entrance and follow our school’s social media.
