Wominjeka Day Camps

Grade 3

How lucky we were that the weather held out (just!) for Year 3's Wominjeka Day Camps.

We kicked the week off with Play is the Way Games which focussed on trust and clear communication strategies.  The students used the Play is the Way Life Rafts; pursue your personal best no matter who you work with.  There was a rich dialogue between our student 'robots' and 'controllers' as to what communication skills were needed to succeed in the activity.

On Wednesday we split the day into two sessions, one activity at Clip 'n' Climb where we learned to climb walls that were extremely high.  Some of us were confident but some of us had to be super brave to participate to progress (another of our Life Rafts)!  At Casey fields swimming centre,  we learned a little bit about being safe in the water and also how to keep others safe.  We participated in relay swimming and water volleyball and then we had free time to play with our classmates.  We finished the day proud of ourselves but exhausted.

Friday morning we invited a company called Supreme into our school to help us complete some challenges. We had to use speed and accuracy, a growth mindset and persistence.  We then shared a meal together at Ballam Park - potato cakes and chips!  Yummo!

Here's what our students had to say!

"I liked the swimming day the best because we were pushed into the pool and we spent lots of time in teams working together and had some free time in the other pool' - Eve

"When we were having free time at swimming me and my friends chose to play volleyball which was good fun.  At rock climbing on the speed wall, my fastest time was 35.41.  I was happy with that achievement" - Finn

"I loved the rock climbing because it was a challenge for me.  I was so happy that I got to the top of two; the circles one and the hexagon one." - Alexia

"Definitely rock climbing was my favourite.  It was really hard and heaps of fun and I really liked the challenge" - Samson

" The Supreme activity I liked the best was the tower building.  Our team had some struggles coming up with ideas but in the end we decided that we would all build mini powers and then join them on top of each other.  It worked!" - Emily
