Senior Years News

What a wonderful start we have had to the 2023 school year in the Senior Years. After a successful Headstart at the end of 2022, the students have hit the ground running in 2023 had have stepped up to the rigors of the senior school.

The Year 12 students started the year with a Big Day Out in Lakes Entrance, where they were able to participate in a variety of team building and self-reflection activities. It was a fun day had by all, and helped set the scene for the Year 12 group to work together and help each other to be successful throughout the year. With one term now completed and only really two more terms to go before all of the SAC’s are completed, the finish line isn’t that far away for the Year 12 students.

TAFE has well and truly started for those that have chosen it as part of their pathway, and the students have been undertaking the first round of assessments towards their certificates. The feedback from TAFE has been that the students have generally made a good start, and the students have been able to step up to the challenges of the adult learning environment.

The VCE-Vocational Major students have been involved in a few different projects, and one of note was their involvement in the successful PARKS day that was held for the junior years students. The VCE-VM students catered the event and provided all of the staff and students with lunch for the day which was a fantastic effort.

The Year 11 students have transitioned well into their VCE certificate and are enjoying the challenge that their chosen subjects are providing them with. Whilst it is another step up from Year 10, the cohort have done well to handle everything thrown at them so far. They have been undertaking their first SAC’s throughout Term 1, and there will be exams for all Year 11 subjects towards the end of Term 2.

The Year 10 students are enjoying the freedom of being able to pick the majority of their subjects for the first time in their schooling. So far they have made a really positive start and are thriving in the subject areas that they enjoy most. Term 2 will allow the students to look towards their potential futures by preparing for and engaging in work experience. This will happen for all Year 10 students in the final week of Term 2, but there is nothing stopping students from getting in early and setting up an employer for some work experience now. Some industries are extremely popular and have limited positions, so if they are not locked in early, opportunities may be missed.

Notice has just gone out for the upcoming Year 10 and 11 camp to Tasmania to be held at the end of Term 3. Should this be something that is being considered by students and their families, deposits can now be made to the front office to secure a position on the list.

All in all it has been a great start to the year in the Senior Years, and we are looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring.
